INTRODUCTION
As the world evolves, so does technology, and media is very much affected
by such developments. Whether it is from an era that dates back to the 1600s to
the ones that were recently invented or modified, media is very much a part of
human existence.
In these activity sheets, you will learn why there is a certain fascination in
the different technological devices that send us information and entertainment.
We should also learn how each media product is made in order to fully understand
how the message embedded in it is relayed from the creator to its target audience
– that means you!
To the Senior High School students, may you develop a fuller understanding
of media and society and be a media and information literate!
Objectives;
The Learner will be able to:
1. evaluates current trends in media and information and how it will affect/how they affect
individuals and the society as a whole
2. predicts future media innovation
3. synthesizes the overall knowledge about media and information with skills for producing a
prototype of what the learners think is a future media innovation
Discussion
Media and Information in Education
UBIQUITOUS LEARNING
-defined as learning anywhere, anytime and is closely associated with mobile technologies.
-the portability of computers and computing devices has blurred the traditional lines between
formal and informal learning.
-it could take place from the traditional classroom in a virtual environment.
-MOOC is an online course aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web.
-it provide interactive user forums to support community interactions among students,
professors, and teaching assistants (TAs).
-it does not include collaborative features for students to work together, or good conversation
channels between students and teachers.
WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY
are smart electronic devices (electronic device with micro-controllers) that are worn close
to and/or on the surface of the skin, where they detect, analyze, and transmit information
concerning e.g., body signals such as vital signs, and/or ambient data and which allow in
some cases immediate biofeedback to the wearer.
Examples of wearable technology include: Smart jewelry, such as rings, wristbands,
watches and pins. Smaller devices typically work in coordination with a smartphone app
for display and interaction. Body-mounted sensors that monitor and transmit biological
data for healthcare purposes
3D ENVIRONMENT
Allows you to create objects in a 3-dimensional space. It is widely used by
animators and designers for the film, games and broadcast, web and advertising
industries as well as by engineers and architects to visualize their products,
packaging, and architectural designs. Using a 3D software package, you can create
3D PRINTING
3D or three dimensional in its literal sense refers to anything that has width, height, and
depth. The physical world is an example of a 3D environment. The concept of 3D
environment is explored to mimic the physical world in media.
is the construction of a three-dimensional object from a CAD model or a digital 3D
model. The term "3D printing" can refer to a variety of processes in which material is
joined or solidified under computer control to create a three-dimensional object, with
material being added together (such as liquid molecules or powder grains being fused
together), typically layer by layer.
HOLOGRAM
A hologram is a physical recording of an interference pattern which uses diffraction to
reproduce a three-dimensional light field, resulting in an image which retains the depth, parallax,
and other properties of the original scene. Holography is the science and practice of making
holograms. A hologram is a photographic recording of a light field, rather than an image formed
by a lens.
AUGMENTED REALITY
is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in
the real world are enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information, sometimes
across multiple sensory modalities, including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory and
olfactory. AR can be defined as a system that fulfills three basic features: a combination
of real and virtual worlds, real-time interaction, and accurate 3D registration of virtual
and real objects.
1. What are the other wearable technologies that you know? (Give its examples and
purpose.)
2. What is the difference between 3D movies and to those who are not?
3. What do you think will be the future of trends of Media and Information? in Education
sector?
4. Which of the discussed trends in media and information do you think will have the most
impact or influence to people and to the society as a whole? Why?
INFORMATION LITERACY
is a set of abilities to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate,
evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.
forms the basis for lifelong learning.
helps learners to master content and extend their investigations, become more self-
directed, and assume greater control over their own learning.
Information is available through libraries, community resources, special interest
organizations, media, and the Internet--and increasingly, information comes to
individuals in unfiltered formats, raising questions about its authenticity, validity, and
reliability.
An information literate individual is able to:
Determine the extent of information needed
Access the needed information effectively and efficiently
Evaluate information and its sources critically
Incorporate selected information into one’s knowledge base
Use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose
Assessment 2: Read the statements carefully. Place the answer (True or False) on the
space provided before the number.
