The central attraction of Alber victor


hospital was placed on North East of
palace road.
This hospital was located between
Thirumalai Nayakar mahal and
Mission hospital.
Pandiyan cooperative marker was
also located .

On the top of this antic building


there was a church which was now
functioning as an office since 29-10-
1897.
These information was sculptured on
stone as a historical remembrances .
By seeing the stone carved text we
could able to know that Alber victor
hospital was working since 1897.
Name of this hospital was kept in
remembrance of Prince of Wales.
King Ramanathapuran wished to
keep this name as the hospitals name.
This hospital was opened by Sir
Arthur Havelock on 29-10-1897 who
was working as a Governor of
Chennai.
Further details of this hospital was
known from another stone carved
text which was located on that place.
Dr. Frank Van Allen, who was the
Chief Physician of the Madurai
Mission hospital till 1890 and a
young lawyer who was known during
his time , A.L.A., who was known as
Pattacharya and Ramanathan
Chettiar played a major role by
lending Funds provided by
Ramanathapuram king.

Albert victor bridge is a key factor


for easy transport.
It's length is 300 meters with 15
bends .
Age of the bridge is 135 years
It was built by British people by
using stones .
Building construction was started
on 8th December 1886 and the
bridge opened at 9th December
1889.

Dr. Allen's Assistant Meenakshi


Naidu, Ramasuppu Iyer,
Missionary Jones Iyer, and many
others helped them in construction
work.
It was planed that prince victor
will come forward to open up the

bridge.
But due to cholera disease he was
unable to come forward.
Later Madurai District Collector of
that time opened up the bridge.
Madurai group gave the thousand
rupees and National fund gave
sixty thousand rupees and Chennai
funders gave amount for the
construction of this Albert victor
bridge.
