1. What is communication disorder?


▪ Many children suffer from communication disorder. As the name
implies, children with communication disorder have difficulty
creating speech sounds or understanding others or their spoken
language.

2. What are the types of communication disorder? Explain each?


▪ Communication disorder has two types these are speech disorder
and language disorder. Any condition that affects a person’s
capacity to form sounds that create words is referred to as a speech
disorder. Children having this kind of disorder says incorrect words,
produces speech that is unclear, even to familiar people. Language
disorder is a condition in which a person has difficulty learning,
utilizing, and/or understanding spoken or written language. So,
children with language disorder has the inability to understand and
use language properly that provides real challenges for some kids.

3. What are the ways in identifying children with speech and language
disorder?
The ways in identifying children with speech disorder are the
following:
▪ Articulation Test- the evaluation of child’s ability to produce
speech sounds in isolation, words, sentences and spontaneous
speech
▪ Fluency evaluation
▪ Voice evaluation
▪ Hearing test
▪ Case history
▪ Samples of the child’s work except

The ways in identifying children with speech disorder are the


following:

▪ Speech- language pathologist (SLP) rely on standardized,


norm- referenced tests etc.
▪ A family history

▪ Observational Checklist and teacher report
▪ Interviews with the student, as appropriate
▪ Language sample, which is an analysis made of elicited
conversational speech

4. Enumerate some teaching strategies for children with communication


disorder.
▪ Educators should create an environment of acceptance and
understanding in the classroom.
▪ Practice and maintain easy and effective communication skills by
modeling good listening skills by facilitating participation of all
students in classroom discussions and activities.
▪ Provide adequate space and time to accommodate these forms of
communication.

Reflection:

After watching the short film entitled “Different” wherein there are
two persons with disabilities and they have different ways of coping. I realize
that despite of their differences at the end they choose to be kind with
each other. It teaches me to be more understanding about their difficulties.
Also, I realized that we should not look about differences on one another
because you never know what someone’s capabilities or limitations might
be, but everyone has something to offer.
