ACTIVITY TIME
PEGGING
(USING CLOTH PEGS)

LEARNING OUTCOME:
• The activity will help build the wrist and finger muscle.
• They will develop pincer grip.
• It will help build social and emotional independence and they will learn how to care for
their environment.
• Prepare child for mathematical concept.

ABOUT PEGGING:
Pegging Activities help strengthen child's finger and hand grip, improvises their hand-eye
coordination, improves concentration and of course they are exciting and children have fun too.
Having fun always makes learning things much easier. Pegging activities are those activities
where child use different kind of pegs and learn how to use them differently.

We've listed an interesting activity that is great to keep them busy and will build their
hand muscles in the process. This will in the long run help in developing their pincer grip
and writing skills.

Pegging Activity:
Material Required:
• Cloth mat
• Tray
• 9 cloth pegs

Instructions for parents:


Please keep the below material ready before the Activity session.
• Keep all the pegs in the tray.
• Place that tray on the mat.

Instructions for children:


• Demonstrate to hold the peg in 3 dominant fingers.
• Demonstrate it once to them pinch and open the peg.
• This demonstration should be done very slowly in order for children to understand.
• Start placing each peg on the edge of basket.
• Always start from left to right.
• Keep equal distance between the pegs.
• Once all the pegs are placed on the edge of basket start removing the pegs and place
them back in the basket.
• Start from left to right.
• In order to complete the activity we need to complete the whole circle.

What are students expected to do:

● Students should be able to hold the peg using their 3 dominant fingers.
● For better grip hold the peg from the top.
● They should be able to place the pegs on the edge of the tray at equal distance.
