• You cannot use the IVG to read


or type messages while moving.
• There is one exception: a
co-driver who is logged in
but not driving can use the
IVG without restriction.

IVG Overview
• Integrated suite of software and hardware that sends information
between your tractor and the dispatch center by high-speed cellular
data network. GPS
– The IVG unit delivers
information to the Network
Operations Center (NOC) via
a CDMA terrestrial network or

• Normal information exchange between you and dispatch, such as:
– Load acknowledgement — Load assignment
– Arrived at shipper — Directions
– Bump the dock — Trailer switch
– Daily check call — Yard information

• Vehicle position reports and other automatic updates

• Vehicle and driver information from optional applications, such as:


– Performance Monitoring, Fault Monitoring, Critical Event Reporting, Hours of Service,
and Vehicle Inspection

Stopped vs. Moving
• While stopped:
– You can use any application that is enabled on the IVG
– You tap an icon on the Home screen to access applications
• While moving, you can access the following, with the limited
functionality as described:
– Messages (via text-to-speech)
– Hours of Service (view available hours and retrieve through
Intelligent Voice Interface)
– Navigation (a map displays the next turn as text-to speech
announces it)

Using the IVG
The IVG allows you to
exchange information with your
dispatcher and use mobile
applications.

Use the virtual keyboard to send


and receive information (when
stopped).

When the driver is logged in,


applications that have not been
purchased by your company will
have a greyed out/muted
appearance.

Using the IVG
• While driving, you cannot
read messages, but you can
listen to them.
• Tap Messaging, then tap the
play button.

• Use the scroll bar to locate


other messages.
• The play button becomes a
pause button during
playback. Tap it to pause and
restart the playback.

Log In and Out
Some services, such as Hours of Service and Navigation, need to
know who you are.

You need to know how to:


– Log in to the IVG
– Change your status
o Active = driving
o Inactive = not driving
– Log out of the IVG

Log Out
1. Tap your name to select it.
It is selected automatically if
you are the only driver
logged in.

2. Tap Logout.

Change Status
1. Tap your name (if more than
one driver is logged in), then
tap Change.

2. Type your password and tap


OK.

LBRAD is now the active


driver.

Messaging and Macros
Sending and receiving information is the most common task
performed on the IVG.

You need to know how to:


– Recognize that new
information has arrived.
– Read the information.
– Reply to it.
– Use macros to save time
and improve accuracy.

Receiving Information
• Information automatically arrives when the ignition is
on and for a short time after the ignition is turned off.
• Starting or idling your vehicle is not necessary.
• Information is stored until you are ready to read it.
• When you are sleeping, you can turn the volume
down completely for both alerts and voice.
• Be sure to turn the volume back up when you get
behind the wheel!

How Do You Know If You Have a Message?
1. The IVG plays an alert.
2. Text-to-speech tells you.
3. A mail icon appears at
the top of the display.
4. The Messaging button shows
“N Unread Messages.”
5. The IVG alert waiting icon will show you the priority of a new,
unread alert, including messages:
Blue = Normal
Orange = Important (example: a CER alert)
Red = Emergency
Note: The Halo around the home button on the IVG will also light
up to match the priority of the highest alert.

If You’re Moving When You Get Alerted
You see a summary after
selecting your inbox.
You can:
• Tap the play button.
• Tap the forward and backward
arrows to play other messages.
After you stop, you can:
• Read information and reply to it.
• Create new freeform or macro
messages and send them.
• Check your outbox for
information you sent.

Read a Message

to read.

1. Tap Compose.
2. Tap to select the macro.
You may need to scroll to
find it.
3. Open the virtual keyboard.
4. Tap inside each box, and
then type its data.
5. Scroll down as needed to
complete the message.
6. When you’re finished, close
the virtual keyboard.
7. Tap Send, then tap Yes to
confirm.

Send a Freeform Message
1. On the compose tab, tap
Freeform in the list or tap
the Freeform button.

2. Open the virtual keyboard.


3. Type a message and close
the keyboard.
4. Tap Send, then tap Yes to
confirm.

Intelligent Voice Interface
Intelligent Voice Interface (IVI) is an always on application that listens
for driver commands and implements them.

In this lesson you will learn how to:


– Access IVI
– Learn the proper commands
– Navigate IVG using your voice

Access IVI
1. The driver initiates IVI by
saying, “Hello Omnitracs.”

The IVG is constantly listening and


will reply with, “Hello, Please state a
command.

The IVI icon on the header will turn


blue after the above dialog. When
active, IVI is actively listening for one
of the specific commands supported.

can use any of the commands below to perform a task:

IVI Commands help
While in your vehicle you can access the list of available
commands by doing the following.

Mobile Reset
The new mobile reset button allows a driver who is experiencing
problems with their IVG to reset the device without having to wait for
support services to send a command over the air. A mobile reset
CANNOT be initiated while the vehicle is in motion.

Mobile reset
1. If you are not already, stop
your vehicle and put the
truck in park.
2. Remove the protective
rubber flap from the left side
of the IVG.
3. Press and hold the reset
button for ten seconds.
4. Release the button and the
IVG will restart.
5. Check the hardware to
make sure everything is
working properly before
driving again.

• Some of the settings on the IVG are controlled by your company
and cannot be changed.

• You need to know how to set:


– Volume
– Brightness
– Time zone

• You also need to be able to


calibrate the touchscreen.

volume level.

the time zone you want and

Note: You can use the tip of a


pen as long as the ballpoint is
retracted.
