• You cannot use the IVG


to read or type messages
while moving.
• There is one exception: a
co-driver who is logged in
but not driving can use the
IVG without restriction.

Critical Event Reporting (CER)
CER reports events that could affect safety. These include:
– Hard braking
– Lane departure*
– Roll stability*
– Forward collision warning*
– Following time violation*
– Overspeed and excessive
overspeed*
– Manually-triggered events*

*These events require special sensors


on the truck. Find out whether your
company uses them.

Critical Event Reporting (CER)
You need to understand:
– When critical events are triggered
– What information is sent when a CER is triggered

You need to know how to:


– Manually trigger a critical event
– Know when the IVG has automatically generated a critical event report

When Does the IVG Send a CER?
The system sends a Critical Event Report when:
– A sensor detects an event affecting safety. Depending on your company,
these could include: hard braking, roll stability, lane departure, and
overspeeding.
– You manually trigger a CER.

CER Information Sent
Information sent includes:
– The vehicle’s location when the CER was triggered
– The vehicle’s location when the information about the CER was delivered
– The vehicle’s speed and other pertinent information for the period starting
five minutes before and ending two minutes after the CER was triggered
– The type of event generated (hard braking, manual, etc.)

The CER button is available whether you are moving or stopped.

Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR)
Regulations require that you inspect your truck and trailer every day.
VIR lets you complete these inspections easily on the IVG.

You need to know how to:


– Access the VIR application.
– Create vehicle and trailer
inspection reports.
– Fill out defect information and
sign and submit your reports.
– View previous inspections.
– Acknowledge and close existing
reports after verifying defect
corrections.

Accessing the VIR Application
If your company uses Hours of
Service (HOS), both application
names appear on the Hours of
Service menu button.

You can switch between VIR and


HOS from within either application.

Send Vehicle Inspection
1. Open Vehicle Inspection Report:
– From within the HOS application
(VIR button).
– From the “Hours of Service/VIR”
button on the home menu.
– From the “Vehicle Inspection
button on the home menu.
2. Tap Vehicle Inspection to select
it.
3. Tap Select.
4. Tap No if there are no defects
found.
OR
Tap Yes to create a defect.

type information to describe
the defect found.

selected as the signature for the
report.

8. Type the truck number for


which this VIR is being
completed.

Trailer Inspection
After completing the inspection,
VIR asks if you have a trailer.
In this example, you have a
trailer with a defect.

1. Tap Yes.
2. Complete the form. Tap Yes
and then tap the check
box(es) to indicate the
problems you found.

Submit and Inspection with a Defect
1. Enter a description of the
defect.
2. “Sign” the form by entering
the Trailer ID.
3. Tap Done.
4. Tap OK to acknowledge
completion.

Note: Reporting defects from a vehicle


inspection is the same process. The result
is an open VIR that your company needs
to address.

Closing an Open VIR
After sending an inspection
report with a defect, the Alert
Manager notifies you when
Maintenance responds.

1. Tap the Alert to open the


VIR.

2. Read the response, check


its accuracy, and then tap
Next Page.

Closing an Open VIR
You must close the VIR; it is
unlawful to drive with an open
defect.
1. Tap Yes or No to answer the
safety question.
2. Select your name from the drop-
down list.
3. Tap Done.

Notes:
• You cannot create a new vehicle VIR if
an open defect exists.
• You can create a new trailer VIR with a
pending defect trailer VIR.
• If the repairs are not satisfactory, say “No”
to the safety question and then create a
new defect VIR.
