2.  Using a, create your generalizations and discuss:

What is globalization? How would you define globalization?

Globalization is the expansion of ideas, knowledge, information, products, and services

throughout the globe. In business, the phrase is used to define interconnected economies that are
characterized by free trade, open capital movement among nations, and easy access to foreign
resources, especially labor markets, in order to optimize returns and benefit for the common
good. The convergence of cultural and economic systems drives globalization, or globalisation as
it is known in various areas of the world. Increased connection, integration, and interdependence
among nations is encouraged – and in some circumstances required – by this convergence. The
globe gets increasingly globalized when more nations and areas become politically, culturally,
and economically connected.

III- Brush Up
1. What would be the working definition of globalization for your course?
It is the challenge of modern times and social needs. In their new role, teachers should support
both the students and their parents. Teachers should act as guides for their students and direct
them in their individual processes of development, taking into consideration the challenges of the
globalization process.
2. What is the importance of studying globalization?
The goal of the Globalization Studies program is to improve knowledge, understanding, and
analysis of globalization's role in the modern world and its impact on our lives. It is very
important to study globalization because understanding the contemporary international political
economy is an essential part of being an informed citizen. Understanding globalization is a very
important part of learning about our human involvement with the environment and society.

3. When was the beginning of the contemporary world?

The modern world history, the modern era or the modern period is the global, linear, historical-
geographical approach to the time frame that comes post the classical history. Perhaps, this view
is in contrast to the non-linear or rather the organic view of history which was initially put forth
by the famous historian and philosopher Oswald Spengler in the early 20th century.

4. Why is the word “globalization” given emphasis or importance in today’s contemporary

world? Explain
Globalization is an important concept for students in higher education to understand and
appreciate in today's world because businesses and industries are looking for people who can
work with people from different countries and cultures and, if necessary, travel internationally to
promote their business or industry. Furthermore, the globe confronts global issues that will
necessitate the formation of interdisciplinary teams to address; for example, ensuring that
everyone on the earth has access to clean water and making clean renewable energy cheap, to
mention a few. These global challenges will need to be solved through the gathering and sharing
of knowledge across disciplines, institutions, and other entities institutions on a global scale.
Creating meaningful relationships that work globally is in itself challenging. In this chapter, we
will look at global challenges, the makeup of model collaborative international teams; the
importance of teaching globalization in higher education, how to best teach globalization, and
discuss best practices in this area.
