Data and Applications

Workshop Day 1
CESOSACO
GAMLP

Course Goals

• Describe a photogrammetric stereo model

• Identify elements of a photogrammetric softcopy workstation
• Construct a digital elevation model (DEM) from stereo air
photos
• Overview LiDAR dataset
• Identify important elements in a digital hydrological model
• Generate a normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI)
• Describe applications to topographic risk management of UAS
• Plan a project based on matching equipment with data
objectives

Module01 3
Distortions in Air Photos

 Major Distortions
 Tip and Tilt – pitch, yaw and roll of the aircraft due to turbulence
 Height Displacement – due to changes in ground elevation

 Minor Distortions
 Lens Distortion – imperfections in how the lens focuses light
 Earth Curvature – the higher up the more curved the earth’s
surface resulting in a convex shape of the surface
 Atmospheric Refraction – the refraction of light through the
atmosphere which bends light towards the camera (concave)
 Film Shrinkage – Stretching, warping and bending of film during
exposure (in camera) or during scanning (in scanner)
