V. Rationale

According to Cherry Dale, “I think if people truly understand the wat that financial systems work at an
early age, or even later on in life – if they’ve made poor decisions but learn how they can go back and fix
them and start planning for the future – they can encompass that and take the steps to make a better
life for themselves.” Financial Literacy is the possession of skills that allows people to make smart
decisions with their money. When you are financial literate, you will be able to understand the major
financial issues most people face: emergencies, debts, investments, etc. There are 3 concepts financial
literate must master: Budgeting, Emergencies and Debt.

As stated in Republic Act no. 10922 or the “Economic and Financial Literacy Act” it is declared the policy
of the State to develop national consciousness on economic and financial literacy by declaring the
second week of November of every year as “Economic and Financial Literacy Week.” The State
recognizes the growth potential of the country through a financially literate people who make sound
financial decisions, mobilize savings, and contribute ideas on improving economic and financial policies
and programs.

The financial literacy for women in barangay in relation to SLU and NSTP, as a student taking up Bachelor
of Science in Accountancy Management In Saint Louis University. This activity helps enhances our
learning through first-hand experience because of our involvement in the community. Through this
financial literacy for women in barangay, we were able to indulge ourselves in real life situations rather
than being coop up in a classroom at SLU. In addition, as NSTP promotes volunteerism and SLU
promotes internship and community involvement promotes civic education, we can integrate this 3 into
facilitation of service learning program that will achieve the purpose of each subject. As an accountancy
students, we were able to share our knowledge and raise awareness as well as the importance of
financial literacy for persons of all ages, whether you are an adolescent, a college student or a mother.
