Barangay/Community Makati City

1. Demography The total population in Makati City, as recorded in 2020, is 629,616.

2. Location The city is located at the center of the National Capital Region
(NCR) and is bounded by Pasig River on the north, the
municipality of Pateros on the east, the City of Taguig on the
southeast, the City of Pasay on the south and southwest and the
City of Manila on the northwest.

3. Occupation/Economic The city of Makati remains the richest local government unit (LGU)
Characteristics in the Philippines in terms of income from local sources and on a
per capita basis.

As of end-2012, Makati had registered over 62,000 business


enterprises, which are engaged in financial services,
wholesale/retail, services, real estate, export/import, and
manufacturing. Makati also boasts of having the highest number
of BPO offices in Metro Manila at 1,159 companies to date, as well
as the highest number of PEZA-accredited IT Parks and Buildings.

Makati is one of the most well-known shopping hubs of Metro


Manila. Various shopping centers, offering both international and
local retail shops, high-end boutiques, dining outlets and
entertainment facilities can be found around the city.

4. Social Structure There are 148,430 households in the city. Families have an average
number of 3.8. Social welfare services are eminent and the LGU
offers it to all Makatizen.

5. Culture/Languages/Tradition Makati is home to several fine art museums, colonial-era churches,


and recreation areas. The Ayala Museum is a private fine arts and
history museum housing various exhibitions such as the "Gold of
Ancestors," an exhibition of more than one thousand golden pre-
Hispanic artifacts. Other popular museums also in Makati also
include the Yuchengco Museum and the Museo ng Makati.

The language spoken in the city is Tagalog.

6. Environment Makati is landlocked urban with various infrastructures and


facilities. Despite that, the city still environmental-friendly.

7. Health Various public and private hospitals can be found in the city. If you
are a Makatizen cardholder then you can avail all the services for
free.
8. Lifestyle and Daily Life Makati is known for business and shopping district but there are
also recreational areas and parks where you can just enjoy your
day in peace and serenity.

9. Education The city has 109 public schools and 145 private schools with a
Basic Literacy Rate (NCR) of 99.30%

10. Community Participation The city social service has various programs and initiatives that
aims to improve the community awareness of Makatizens and
encourage them to be actively involved in the community
processes. One best example is the “Shared Growth” Urban
Renewal Initiatives.
