Line Graphs

Line graphs are one of the most common tasks seen in IELTS. Candidates are usually presented
with a graph that has multiple lines on it, representing a vast amount of data. The problem for students
usually falls into the area of selecting the most important information to be included in the answer.
Before we discuss what data should be included, we need to take a look at vocabulary and some
grammar which will be used in these types of assignments, and that may be used in other areas as well.

Due to the fact that almost all line graphs include a reference to time, we need to include some
specific phrases to show what types of trends occur. Keep in mind that if no time is presented, these
phrases should not be used, and the answer should focus more on proportional amounts.

Trend vocabulary helps us to mention about time, and patterns according to time. These are
usually very simple words, but they are integral in being more precise in responses.
