GOOD TRAITS OF A THANKFUL HEART OF THE

CHRISTIAN
COLOSSIANS 3:15-17 “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts,
to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;
teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and
spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, [do] all in the name
of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

Introduction:

a. Traits – quality that makes one person, characteristic, attribute,


mark.

b. King David was known to be very thankful Christian before God.


PSALM 75:1 “Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, [unto thee]
do we give thanks: for [that] thy name is near thy wondrous
works declare.”
PSALM 136:1-4 “O give thanks unto the Lord; for [he is]
good: for his mercy [endureth] for ever.
Pss 136:2 O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy
[endureth] for ever.
Pss 136:3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy
[endureth] for ever.
Pss 136:4 To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his
mercy [endureth] for ever.”

c. God is so pleased with the church or Christians who are very


thankful to Him of all things He hath done in our life.
PSALM 116:12 “Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, [unto
thee]

Five (5) great traits of a thankful heart of the Christians:

I. CHRISTIANS WITH A LOVING HEART TO GOD

DEUTERONOMY 6:5 “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with
all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”
PSALM 116:1-5 “I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice
[and] my supplications.
Pss 116:2 Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I
call upon [him] as long as I live.
Pss 116:3 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell
gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.
Pss 116:4 Then called I upon the name of the Lord; O Lord, I beseech
thee, deliver my soul.
Pss 116:5 Gracious [is] the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God [is]
merciful.”

a. God was touched by the loving heart of King David.


PSALM 91:14-15 “Because he hath set his love upon me,
therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he
hath known my name.
Pss 91:15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I [will
be] with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.”

II. CHRISTIAN WITH A PRAYING HEART TO GOD

PSALM 28:6-9 “Blessed [be] the Lord, because he hath heard the
voice of my supplications.
Pss 28:7 The Lord [is] my strength and my shield; my heart trusted
in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and
with my song will I praise him.
Pss 28:8 The Lord [is] their strength, and he [is] the saving strength
of his anointed.
Pss 28:9 Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them
also, and lift them up for ever.”
PSALM 86:1-6 “Bow down thine ear, O Lord, hear me: for I [am]
poor and needy.
Pss 86:2 Preserve my soul; for I [am] holy: O thou my God, save
thy servant that trusteth in thee.
Pss 86:3 Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily.
Pss 86:4 Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I
lift up my soul.
Pss 86:5 For thou, Lord, [art] good, and ready to forgive; and

plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.
Pss 86:6 Give ear, O Lord, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice
of my supplications.
Pss 86:7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt
answer me.”

a. So many Christians in the church with a praying heart.


ACTS 1:13-15 “And when they were come in, they went up into
an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John,
and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew,
James [the son] of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas [the
brother] of James.
Acts 1:14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and
supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus,
and with his brethren.
Acts 1:15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the
disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about
an hundred and twenty,)”

b. 120 Church members are with a praying heart for the salvation of
many lost people in their community and God answers their prayer.
ACTS 2:41 “Then they that gladly received his word were
baptized: and the same day there were added [unto them] about
three thousand souls.”

c. 3000 souls got saved and followed the Lord in baptism.

III. CHRISTIANS WITH A WORSHIPING HEART TO GOD

PSALM 86:9-13 “All nations whom thou hast made shall come
and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.
Pss 86:10 For thou [art] great, and doest wondrous things: thou
[art] God alone.
Pss 86:11 Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite
my heart to fear thy name.
Pss 86:12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and
I will glorify thy name for evermore.
Pss 86:13 For great [is] thy mercy toward me: and thou hast
delivered my soul from the lowest hell.”

JOHN 4:23-24 “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true
worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the
Father seeketh such to worship him.
Jn 4:24 God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship
[him] in spirit and in truth.”

IV. CHRISTIANS WITH A SEEKING HEART FOR GOD

MATTHEW 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his
righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
1 CHRONICLES 22:19 “Now set your heart and your soul to seek
the Lord your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of
the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the
holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of
the Lord.”
1 CHRONICLES 16:11-13 “Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his
face continually.
1Chr 16:12 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his
wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
1Chr 16:13 O ye seed of Israel his servant, ye children of Jacob, his
chosen ones.”

V. CHRISTIANS WITH A SATISFYING HEART FOR GOD

PSALM 23:1 “The Lord [is] my shepherd; I shall not want.”
