1. Explain coriolis acceleration in the mechanism of machine. [3]
2. In a four bar chain ABCD, AD is fixed as shown in fig. l. The crank AB is 30mm long
and rotates at lSOr.p.m. anti-clockwise, while the link CD oscillates about D. By
instantaneous center method, find the angular velocity of rigid link CD. ·Talce BC = AD =
120mrn and LBAD = 60°. [10]
3. In a pin jointed four bar mechanism, as shown in fig.2, crank AB rotates uniformly at 150
r.p.m. in anti clockwise direction. Find the velocity of mid point of the link CD
graphically. (l 0)
4. Make a complete graphical acceleration analysis of the mechanism as shown in fig.2 .
Find the magnitude and direction of angular acceleration of the rigid link ·eD; . .. ,-- ~- ,·•.. :=-·- --(}~j a ••
5. In a four bar slider crank reciprocating engine mechanism, ti"ie input rigid link (OiA) is
50mm at an angle 135° to the horizontal line alohg which the slider block B reciprocates
and the length of the connecting rod (AB) is 1SOmm. A horizontal force l SON acts at the
slider block 'B' towards right. Make a complete static force analysis to find reaction force
at 0 2 for static equilibrium condition. [10)
6. Draw cam profile from the given information, take the diameter of base circle as 50mm,
knife edge follower without any off set rises _g__lift_of 25mm for 60° with simple harmonic
motion followed by a dwell period for next 30° then descends 25mm for 60° with
constant velocity motion followed by dwell period for next 30°, again rises a lift of20mm
for 60° with constant accelerated motion followed by a dwell period of next 30° then
descends 20 mm for 60° with cycloidal motion followed by dwell period for rest of the
angle. [12)
7. An epicyclic gear consists of three wheels A,B ,C as shown in fig.3. Wheel A has 72
internal teeth, C h~s 32 external teeth. The wheel B gears with both A and C and is
carried on an ann which rotates about tJ:ie centre of wheel A at 18 r.p.m. If the wheel A is
fixed, determine the speed of wheels B arid C. [10]
...V. In a spur gear power transmission system, derive an expression of contact ratio to avoid
interference using standard naming symbols. [ l O)
