II.PRESENTATION
ACTIVITY
Listen to the short story

One Saturday afternoon, the siblings Tim, Denden, and Aizy went to the sea to
have a Banca ride. Riding a banca is one of their favorite hobbies during
weekend. They enjoy watching the sunset while sitting on the boat. Aizy brings
out her fish stuffed toy from her bag. She wanted to have a selfie with her
stuffed toy. Unfortunately, a wave came out and made their boat move
unexpectedly. Suddenly, Aizy’s stuffed toy fell into the water and she was not able
to save it. She was too sad about what happened to her toy.

What do you think will happen to her stuffed toy after falling in the sea?
Let us see what happened to her stuffed toy under the sea!

Guide Questions:
1. How many went for a banca ride? Who are they?
2. What is their favorite hobby?
3. What happened to Aizy’s stuffed toy?
4. What should you do when riding the banca? (Values Integration)
5. After connecting the broken lines, what happened to the stuffed toy under the
sea?
6. After being caught by the octopus, does the shape of the stuffed toy changed?
7. What did the octopus do to change the shape of stuffed toy?

ANALYSIS
The illustration above showed that the octopus pulled the stuffed toy and made his
body squeeze. It simply showed that the octopus applied force by squeezing and it
changed the shape of the stuffed toy. That is our lesson for today.
The Effects of Force to the Shape of an Object.

ABSTRACTION
MATCH ME
Identify the force applied to the following materials to change their shape
by matching the word and the picture being shown.

compressing, bending, stretching, twisting, or pressing.

What are the effects of force to the shape of an object when force is applied?
•Force can change the shape of an object.
•Some objects regain their original shape when the force applied is released or
removed and some are not.

I.PRACTICE
APPLICATION (Guided Practice)
Activity 1: STRETCHING
Get a rubber band. Stretch it softly.

Does the shape of rubber band change when stretched?

(Yes, force changed its shape)

Activity 2: SQUEEZING
Get a kitchen sponge and squeeze it.

What happen when you squeezed it?

(It changed its shape by applying force)
What happen when you released it?
(It regained its original shape)

Activity 3 : PRESSING
Direction: Take a modelling clay.
Press the clay gently by finger.

What happen when you pressed the clay?

(It changed its shape)
Does it return to its original shape when hands are removed?
(NO)
Activity 4: COMPRESSING
DIRECTIONS: Get an empty plastic bottle and compress it.

What happen when you compressed the empty plastic bottle?

(It changed its shape)
Does it return to its original shape when hands are removed?
(NO)

Activity 5: TWISTING
DIRECTIONS: Get inflated balloon and twist it.

What happen when you twist the balloon?

(It changed its shape)
What happen when you released it?
(It regained its original shape)

GAME: “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”

Independent Practice
 What did you do with the materials?
(Pressing,, stretching, squeezing, twisting, compressing)
 What did you apply when you do pressing, bending, stretching, squeezing,
twisting, compressing?
(I applied force using my fingers, hands, etc)
 What are the effects of force to the shape of those objects? Why?
(The shape of some objects changed because force can change the shape of
an object)
ASSESSMENT
Directions: Read carefully, and then choose the correct answer by writing
the letter on your answer sheet.

1. Which object could you change the shape by compressing?

a) A glass cup
b) A metal toy
c) A plastic ball

2. What happen when you squeeze the sponge by your hand and release?
a) It breaks
b) It changes shape
c) It regains its shape

3. When a force is applied on a rubber band?

a) It breaks
b) It stays the same
c) Its shape changes

4. John accidentally fell the paper clip on the floor. When he saw it, it changed its
shape. How?
a) maybe it is being bent
b) maybe it is being pressed

5. The children is watching a magic show. Which of the following tricks do you
think will show change in shape when force is applied to the material?
a) waving the magic wand
b) blowing the magicians hat

Find two materials in which objects change their shape on applying force but
don’t regain their original shape on removal of applied force. Show what did you
do through an illustration.
