What is Crisis Now?

Crisis Now is a roadmap to safe, effective mental health and substance use crisis care that diverts people
in distress from the emergency department and jail by developing a continuum of crisis care services
that match the individual’s clinical needs. This reduces and prevents suicides while providing more
immediate and targeted help for a person in a mental health or substance use-related emergency.

What is the Crisis Now Hotline?

In Montgomery County, Ohio, the Crisis Now Hotline number is 833-580-CALL (2255). This number is
answered 24/7 by trained behavioral health professionals who provide high-touch support to individuals
and families in crisis. Up to 90% of calls to the Crisis Now Hotline are resolved on the phone with the
individuals and families given the opportunity to connect to additional support services.

What if the call cannot be resolved on the phone?

If the behavioral health professional on the phone determines the individual needs additional mental
health support, the individual can be referred for an outpatient appointment the next business day, or a
two-person mobile crisis team can conduct a face-to-face assessment. The individual can also be
referred to an immediate care facility if necessary. The goal is to refer the individual to the most
appropriate, least restrictive level of care.

What if the individual is assessed and needs hospital care or is a threat to themselves or others?

If an individual is an immediate threat to themselves or others, 911 will be contacted to execute an

active rescue or to secure public safety. Individuals experiencing a medical emergency, such as
withdrawal symptoms, will be referred to the nearest emergency room.
