Dear Sir:
As you are aware, I have been offered employment and accepted a position within the
Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) in Specialized Prosecutions. Over several
months, my tentative start date has been pushed back several times to accommodate
ASIRT needs, but I was to start with ACPS on November 24, 2021 which was,
unfortunately, again pushed back. My new start day is now December 8, 2021 and my
last day with ASIRT will be Friday, December 3, 2021.
When the ACPS opportunity was first presented to me in February, I had not been
actively looking for a change. That said, I have been in this position since July 2014. I
have always said that I believe that the position of Executive Director should be a limited
term position. When I was first asked to consider returning to prosecute a particularly
serious, complex matter, it was thought that this could be accomplished by taking a two
year secondment from ASIRT to go to Specialized Prosecutions. While they ultimately
offered me a permanent position, I was always ready to leave open the possibility of
return after two years.
More recently, however, having given more thought to my future and the future of
ASIRT, I have decided to resign. Absent a significant change in circumstances, I will not

be returning to ASIRT. As such, please accept this letter as formal notice of my
resignation as the Executive Director of the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team
(ASIRT).
The work itself has also been incredibly rewarding. Every investigation has been
important and the people directly impacted by these investigations have been
important. That includes every affected person or their family and every subject officer
and their family. I hope that throughout my time, those involved or impacted by these
incidents have felt that they have been provided answers they may have had about the
matters under investigation but equally important have felt that they have been treated
with respect and compassion.

It is my hope that in resigning, the search can begin for a new Executive Director who
will have a fresh, more positive, less jaded perspective about the future of ASIRT.
