Introduction

First milling plant – 18th century, Oliver Evans, US

Flour has many uses especially in the industry of baking. There are many types of flour that can be found
in the world, namely, all-purpose flour, cake flour, the well-known whole wheat flour and so many more.

The first ever flour milling plant was established in the United States during the late 18 th century. It was
operated by only seven men labelled as the Basey 7. Oliver Evans, the one who invented the flour milling
plant, situated the plant near the river because the millstones were so massive they can’t be operated
by manpower alone. But in flour milling plants today they use too many equipment.
