Senator Panfilo “Ping” Morena Lacson Sr.

who holds the motto “Ang tama,


ipaglaban. Ang mali, labanan,” as his guiding light was born in Imus, Cavite on June 01,
1948. Lacson who is currently in his 73rd year is living with his wife Alice de Perio, and 4 of
his children namely Reginald, Ronald Jay, Panfilo Jr., Jeric. Running as a presidential
candidate for 2022 election, Lacson presented the aim to achieve the same platform that our
current president, Rodrigo Duterte, is running: war on illegal drugs, criminality, and
corruption. This, however, will have a very different approach from how President Duterte is
taking it.
Ping Lacson’s attained an ungraduated degree in Bachelors of Science at Philippine
Military Academy (1967-1971) and managed to accomplish a Master’s Degree in
Government Management during his duration at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (1995-
1996) hereafter. Furthermore, Lacson completed his high school years at Imus Institute
(1960-1964) and his primary years at Bayang Luma Elementary School (1954-1960). Two
years after Lacson graduated from Philippine Military Academy, he garnered several
scholarship courses and military/police training, which extended over the years, such as
Counter URBAN Guerilla Warfare Course at Fort Magsaysay (1972), Intel Officers Basic
Course and Military Intel Collection Course via SITS at Fort Bonifacio (1973, 1974),

Command and General Staff Course at Camp Crame, and Command General Staff College at
Fort Bonifacio.

Moreover, Lacson was on public service for over 40 years now, 17 years as senator
and 32 years with the Philippine National Police. His career as a public servant started off as
a Metrocom Intelligence and Security Group (1971-1986) after he graduated with his
undergraduate degree, which was followed by several careers such as handling the Chief
assignment on Task Force Habagat (PACC: 1992-1995). As for his recent career in politics,
he’s been seated as Senator from 2001 to 2013, where he ran as one of the presidential
candidates during the 2014 election and continued his service in the senatorial seat in 2016
until the present. For the duration of his service to the public, he has been on the look for
numerous forms of corruption in the field of law enforcement, lawmaking, and humanitarian

As a Filipino politician and former police general serving as a Senator since 2016, the
presidential aspirant surely possess quite a lot of expertise and this include: his no-nonsense
reputation, ability to manage up, proactiveness, strong interpersonal influence, and etc. He

Additionally, Lacson’s efficiency in military public service made him earn several token
of recognition (medals): 17 Military Merit Medals, 3 Medalya ng Kadakilaan, 3 Medalya
ng Kagalingan, 2 Outstanding Achievement Medals, 5 Military Commendation Medals,
5 Bronze Cross Medals, 2 Medalya ng Papuri, Luzon Campaign Medal, Visayas
Campaign Medal, and Combat Efficiency Medal.

He as well gained outstanding awards on the duration of his service: Ten Outstanding
Policemen of the Philippines, Philippine Jaycees Inc. (1998), Special Medal of Honor
from Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), Police Director of the Year
from Regional Command (RECOM) 7 at Cebu City (1992), Adopted Son of Cebu from
Cebu City Council Resolution (1991), Philippine Constabulary Officer of the Year from
Regional Command (RECOM) 7 at Cebu City (1989-1990 and 1990-1991), Certificate of
Academic Excellence from AFP Command and General Staff College (1983), PMA
Alumni Cavalier Award (Special Operations), Philippine Military Academy Alumni
Association Inc. (1983), and PC Metrocom Officer of the Year from Philippine
Constabulary (1982).
Critical Analysis: Presidential candidate and current Senator Panfilo “Ping” Morena Lacson
Sr. may be very potential as to how his credential and actual works show it, but he still has
his lackings in terms of proper leadership. Despite the achievements, he too was involved
with several controversies such as co-authoring and sponsoring the anti-human RA 11479 or
the Anti-Terrorism Act (2020), murder charges for shooting 11 members of the Kuratong
Baleleng syndicate in an operation in 1995, being part of the Metrocom Intelligence and
Security Group (MISG) who enacted torturous acts during the Martial Law years. He may be
potential, but Lacson still needs to be assessed according to his acts.
