Knowledge

They should learn about the main body organs, which are: the brain, lungs, stomach, intestine,
pancreas, spleen, liver, gall bladder, spleen and kidneys. Identify main body organs. Name all main body
organs Know where each organ is situated. Know the functions of the body organs. Know the diseases
that can alter the functioning of these organs. Adapt healthy eating habits .Exercising to keep our body in
a healthy state. Keeping our body organs healthy.

Main body organs and Functions

1. The lungs make up one of the largest organs in the body and they work with the respiratory system to
allow one to inhale in oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide.2. The stomach food is mixed with stomach
juices. Hydrochloric acid in the juice helps to digest the food and also keep the stomach free of harmful
substance.3. The kidney, the body has two kidneys and they are a filter for the blood. They remove the
unwanted substances from the body, while at the same time they work to conserve or get rid of excess
water. They are also important in maintaining fluid, salts and acid balance.4. The heart pumps blood
around the body. Its muscles contract and squeezes out blood.5 .The intestines (small) is the final
place for digestion. The large intestines’ main purpose is to digest food.6. The pancreas produces
digestive enzymes and hormones (insulin) that controls blood sugar level.7. The gall bladder is a small
sac the stores bile made by the liver. After a meal, the gall bladder contracts, squeezing the bile into the
small intestine. Bile breaks down fats in the food.8. The liver cleanses the blood and is the center for
storage of vitamins and nutrients, which were stored in the small intestines. Bile which is needed to
break down fat is also stored in the liver.9. The spleen acts as a filter against foreign organism that
infects the bloodstream. It also filters red blood cells from the bloodstream and decomposes them. it also
act as blood reservoir during stress or other times when additional blood is needed, the spleen contracts,
forcing stored blood into circulation.10. The brain controls the body, receives information, analyzes and
stores information (memory)-like a computer. It also controls the human emotions such as love, hate,
fear, happiness and sadness. it is divided into three main parts; the cerebrum ,the cerebellum and the
brain stem(the medulla).

Taking good care of their bodies’ .Knowing how important it is to maintain our body healthy. Learn healthy
eating habits. Avoiding bad habits that can damage specific body organs e.g. Abuse of alcohol and drugs.
