1. What kind of information do statistics provide?

It enables us to quantify reality and have the elements that allow us to analyze it. The
basis of political and administrative actions is the study of statistical data, because
knowing reality allows us to act in a more coherent way (with knowledge of the facts).

2. Why do scientists use statistics?

Statistical analysis is used in designing scientific studies to increase consistency,


measure uncertainty, and produce robust datasets.

1. Median

The median is the middle number in a sorted, ascending or descending, list of numbers
and can be more descriptive of that data set than the average. The median is sometimes
used as opposed to the mean when there are outliers in the sequence that might skew the
average of the values.

2. Mutually

Two events are said to be mutually if they cannot happen at the same time. For example,
if we toss a coin, either heads or tails might turn up, but not heads and tails at the same
time. Similarly, in a single throw of a die, we can only have one number shown at the
top face. The numbers on the face are mutually exclusive events.

3. Exclusive

In probability, two events are said to be mutually exclusive if and only if the events
have no shared outcomes. If we consider the events as sets, then we would say that two
events are mutually exclusive when their intersection is the empty set.

4. Outcome

In probability theory, an outcome is a possible result of an experiment or trial. Each


possible outcome of a particular experiment is unique, and different outcomes are
mutually exclusive, only one outcome will occur on each trial of the experiment. All of
the possible outcomes of an experiment form the elements of a sample space.
