LESSON 3: ACADEMIC READING STRATEGIES

* What I Know
1. The audience for this report is myself or the person who's reading this and pretends to be a research
consultant to analyze the situation.
2. The Brilliantes Company needs a suitable office space that includes a reception area, where three
office employees can work. They need it for their new working project and if they succeed and make a
big sale, they'll need an additional space for their working office.
3. Yes! I would rely on primary or secondary by conducting the research. I’ll gather the data based on
observation and collect the important data in this report.

* What’s More
PURPOSE ACTIVITY

Get an Overview of the Text I will look at headings, subheadings, intro, and abstract.

Search for a specific fact I will annotate and mark sections of the text. Also, scanning for credible
information that I can use.

Check what theory the author is using I will read and understand the theory then figure out the author's theory.

Understand a concept I will explain in plain simple language and start explaining the concept in
my own words as if I were teaching it to someone else, my friends or
other students.

Analyze the steps in an argument I will identify the argument's claims, conclusions and underlying
assumptions and think of as many alternative explanations and counter
examples as I can.

Compare ideas with what the author I will understand each idea and analyze two subjects by either comparing
says them, contrasting them , or both also spot the difference or unexpected
similarities between two subjects.

* What I Can Do
1. The statement of the problem in the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 is to ensure that all
children receive a high quality education and that no child is left behind regardless of gender,
race, or economic status.
2. The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) was in effect from 2002-2015. It was a version
of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). NCLB was replaced by the Every
Student Succeeds Act in 2015. When NCLB was the law, it affected every public school in the
United States.
3. Yes, it is the research study that suggests, hands-on and inquiry-based science lessons develop
literacy as well as content knowledge. Research also indicates that students’ science
achievement is positively correlated with the amount of teacher professional development.
This study builds upon existing research by using a quasi-experimental design to assess
students’ science achievement after the first-year implementation of a professional
development intervention that focused on science achievement, literacy, and math skills.
