Science and technology are essential for every country's growth and development.

In
every culture, technology plays a critical role in wealth generation, improving quality of
life, and real economic development and change. The basis of how science and
technology apply to society is the development of new knowledge and then the use of
that knowledge to improve human well-being and address societal problems.

The major contributions of science and technology to Philippine nation-building are linked


to its socio-economic progress and its industrialization. Today, the current state of our country is
very low in its capacity to produce local goods for domestic needs as well as in
international scientific research publications.

 4000 years ago - simple tools and weapons of stone flakes but evdentually developed
techniques for sawing, drilling, and polishing hard stones. They formed settlements in major
Philippine islands such as Sulu, Mindanao (Davao and Zamboanga), Negros, Samar, Luzon
(Batangas, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, and the Cagayan region).
 3000 B.C. - they were producing adzes ornaments of seashells and pottery of various
designs. It became well-developed and it flourished for aboit 2000 years until it came into
competition with imported Chinese porcelain. To this day, there are still pottery industry in
cities like Vigan.

Science and Technology hold the key to the progress and development of


any nation. Technology plays a Fundamental role in wealth creation, improvement of the quality
of life and real economic growth and transformation in any society.

Science and technology are key drivers to development,


because technological and scientific revolutions underpin economic advances, improvements in
health systems, education and infrastructure. Products are transforming business practices across
the economy, as well as the lives of all who have access to their effects.
