YOUTH DEVELOPMENT SESSION

(MASANTOL HIGH SCHOOL)
Masantol High School envisions its students to be developed holistically and be a
good citizen of this nation, hence in materializing this vision our school is tied-up with
different institutions, both government and non-government. One of these institutions is the
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) which aims to aid the students to
be honed well in their physical, emotional, social and spiritual aspects.
Youth Development Session (YDS) is one of the programs of the DSWD which
targets its Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4P’s) beneficiaries aged, specifically the
grade 7 students to attend the eleven (11) sessions which will be held monthly, from June to
December. Each session will help them to discover themselves fully, unleash what they have
within and be aware of the things that are happening in the society, thus each session has its
module to be conducted by a teacher facilitator.
Through the cooperation of the 4P’s members and the respected facilitators who are
actually Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP) teachers, each session is being successfully
executed, and each session caters different topics. These topics do not only teach students on
becoming ready for their future, but also, to fully unleash what’s within in them, by knowing
really who they are, as well as their strengths and weaknesses.
The program usually starts through an opening prayer, followed by welcome remarks
given by the guidance counsellor, afterwards to break the ice, there were also
energizers/motivation used, such as dance exercise and other group dynamic activities which
depicts different lessons in life.
After the short opening program, we proceed straight to the program proper or the
discussion; each facilitator goes to their respective groups and discusses the main topic in
which, the students show eagerness as they listen to the facilitator they are also participative
as the facilitator asks questions. It is very evident to their faces and reactions that they were
really enjoying on the things that they are learning. Some were kind of hesitant in asking
questions, while others are very open with the situations that they encounter with regard to
the changes that they feel on their decision making and mood swings. Each facilitator has
really exerted effort in order for them to explain and discuss the topic well for the past
months
Traditionally, we end the program by giving insights and final words, we also finish
the session through the picture taking of each group. The smiles of the participants really
radiate on the pictures, and it really make our hearts filled with happiness. We can say that
these sessions were done successfully with love and joy.
As we end the sessions for the Youth Development Sessions(YDS) this year, we
know that these members of the 4p’s of the DSWD did not just learn on how to take care
themselves, discover more about themselves, how to be nice and good to everyone, but also
they have establish camaraderie together with their co-4p’s members. It was shown during
the session, as they enjoy each other’s company.
This program of DSWD is really a big help for the holistic development of the
students. Modules were very helpful, and so looking forward for more sessions to go!

SESSION 1: ORIENTATION

Before the full implementation of the program, it is a must that the students must
be aware of what the program is all about. This orientation gives also the opportunity for
the 4p’s members to know their co-members that sooner will be their group mates for
each session.
It is very important that each participant is present in the orientation, as it serves as
their guidance on the sessions that they will attend in the next months.

SESSION 2: CHANGE: METAMORPHOSIS OF A PERSON

The title of the 1st module simply indicates the changes that a person would
experience as he/she grows old, it may be seen on the different aspects of a single person
that would definitely affect others. From the word metamorphosis, it solely depicts the
life of a butterfly, from a simple worm to a beautiful, full-blown and strong butterfly. Just
like the life of a person, as we grow old, we are also becoming a greater and better person
because of the challenges and different experiences that God has given us.

SESSION 7: EXPRESSING YOUR EMOTIONS

Knowing the fact that our emotions change as we get older, it is also a need that
we express our emotions. In this module, students are taught on how to properly express
our emotions. With this, it is also one way of having a smooth interpersonal relationship
with others, because aside from expressing our emotions, it is a must that we also know
how to control and manage our emotions as well, and that’s the start of conflict-free self
