SUBJECT:
Proper Installation of the 214-6073 Retainer for
the Piston Pin used with the Monotherm Piston
PROBLEM:
The retainer does not currently have any identification for the
proper orientation during installation. If the retainer is improperly
installed the retainer can stop the piston pin from rotating and
cause a seizure of the piston. During the manufacturing process one
face of the retainer is rolled over. The opposite face has a burr
formed. *Refer to Illustration 1.

* The edges of the tangs have a slight angle. The side of the tang on
the rolled face is wider than the side of the tang on the burr face.

SOLUTION:

The clip must be installed with the rolled edge facing in towards the
piston pin. After the assembly of the piston and rod, check the
rotation of the pin. If the clips are not installed correctly, the pin
will not rotate smoothly. Failure to check the rotation could cause a
seizure of the piston. Illustration 2 is an exploded view of the
piston and rod group.
