Greetings of love, faith, and hope!
The English Club will be celebrating ComArts Festival on October 8, 2021. As our
participation in this annual event, the English Club has prepared several activities for our
students to participate in.
The theme set by the English Club for this year’s celebration is “Interactive
Communication and Learning from a Distance.” To make this celebration enjoyable and
memorable, the following events will be held through the zoom application.

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR COMMARTS FESTIVAL

1. All students of Brokenshire College, Inc. are encouraged to join. A link of the registration
form will be sent before the event proper and link for the attendance will be sent during the
event.

2. Attendance will be given to their respective advisers.

3. All participants in each event must be a bona fide student of Brokenshire College, Inc.

4. All sections must have two class representatives with their advisers. The meeting of the
upcoming event will be on September 24, 2021 at 5:00 P.M. via zoom for the orientation.

5. Zoom links will be sent to the class representatives and adviser per section via messenger.

6. A copy of the mechanics, guidelines, and other materials will also be given to the class
representatives and adviser per section via messenger.

7. Zoom attendees should wear a presentable casual attire. No one should be seen wearing
sando, sports underwear, etc. An online background will be given to each section.

8. Students are encouraged to turn on their cameras for the duration of the event. Also,
participants are required to mute their microphones unless they are asked to speak.

9. All students in the zoom meeting must observe the name format: “SECTION_FIRST
NAME_LAST NAME.”

10. Students are encouraged to join the breakout rooms to engage with the activities. The
develop communicative competence and learn despite the distance.

11. The students can freely choose their rooms based on their preferences.

12. During breakout rooms, please observe proper name format provided by the facilitator.
Saying or chatting any vulgar words is PROHIBITED. Once we caught the players say or
chat any vulgar words once he/she will be given a WARNING, then if he/she repeat it again
then he/she will be RULED DISQUALIFIED.

13. An evaluation form will be sent on the day of the event.


14. The PARTICIPANTS are responsible to send all outputs on google classroom. Especially
the recorded videos, photos, etc.

EVENTS
SPELLING BEE

General Guidelines:
1. Participants must be bona fide students of Brokenshire College Inc.

2. Players will only be allowed to participate if they have completed the Registration
form.
3. Each team must submit two (2) names of their participants on or before October 4,
2021. Failure to submit by then will be grounds for disqualification.
4. Words selected for the Spelling Bee are words found in the English dictionary
appropriate to young adults and the general adult population. They will be spelled out
verbally for the competition.
5. All participants are required to be present to the Zoom meet on October 8, 2021. Their
name format on the day should be (e.g., SPELLINGBEE_COMARTS_CANCHICO)
6. Participants will be responsible for the stability of their own Internet connectivity.
7. Participants will be called to attention on the Zoom private chat fifteen (15) minutes
before the event to make sure that they are ready. They will be called again five (5)
minutes to confirm – this is also to ensure that those whose attention were not called in
the initial time would be called to attention.
Event Mechanics:
1. During the competition proper, the participants will be required to turn on their
cameras to ensure that they are the ones actually speaking. Microphones will
automatically be muted. Participants are only allowed to unmute their microphones when
they are called to attention and asked to spell a word.
2. Each team must have 2 participants in this event
3. Each participant has a maximum of two (2) “lives.” If they misspell a word once, they
may still participate for another round. If they misspelled the word twice, they will be
eliminated.
4. The event is categorized into (3) three levels: 1. Easy, 2. Moderate, and 3. Difficult.
5. In each category, the facilitator will be giving words that contains point each; “Easy”
category has 5 words containing 1 point each. “Moderate” category has 10 words
containing 3 points each; and “Difficult” category that has 15 words with 5 points each
4. The facilitator will be reading the word twice but before that, the participants should be
raising both hands to avoid cheating.
5. Only the following clues are available for the participants to ask once per word:
a. Repeating the word one more time;
b. Asking for the word definition; and
c. Using the word in a sentence. They may use all three clues if they want to.
6. When they are answering, the participants are given a grace period of five (5) seconds
to ready themselves. It will be paused when they ask for clues but will resume when the
clue has been given.
7. The clock starts when they say the word and a maximum of thirty (30) seconds will be
given to fully spell out the word.
8. A bell sound will give you a signal that the time is up.
9. Once the participant repeats the word given or utters the last letter of the given word, it
is considered that they are done and the verdict will be given if they are wrong or correct.

10. Once the participant uses up his two (2) lives, they will be eliminated.
11. Rounds will continue until there is only one participant remaining who will be
deemed champion. From there, the top five (5) will be determined.
12. Any violation of the guidelines and mechanics will be grounds for disqualification.
13. The announcement of winners will be conducted on the last day of the ComArts
Festival.
14. Any matters not mentioned above will be decided by the working committee

DECLAMATION

General Guidelines:
1. Participants must be bona fide students of Brokenshire College Inc.
2. Students will only be allowed to participate if they have completed the Registration
form
3. Each team must submit ONE (1) name of their participant on or before October 4,
2021. Failure to submit by then will be grounds for disqualification.
4. All participants are required to be present to the Zoom meet on October 8, 2021. Their

5. Participants will be responsible for the stability of their own Internet connectivity.

Event Mechanics:

2. Participants shall be given prerogative to choose any declamation piece deliverable in
five (5) minutes or less.
3. Content should be related to the theme : “ Interactive Communication and Learning
from a distance”
4. Participants must memorize the piece chosen.
5. Participants shall be in an appropriate costume.

6. Upon submission of the results to the committee, judges’ decision shall be considered
final and irrevocable.
7. Only three students’ declaimers shall be awarded as champion, 1st runner-up, and 2nd
runner-up.

2021. Failure to submit by then will be grounds for disqualification.

4. Essay writing contest is “on the spot” therefore, the participants should be responsible
on internet’s stability

Event Mechanics:
1. The participant must be a bona fide JHS and SHS student of Brokenshire College.
2. All entries must be written in English language.
3. All entries must have at least 200 words and must not exceed 300 words.
4. All essays must be original and previously unpublished.
5. All essays must be related to the theme “Interactive Communication and Learning
from a Distance”.
6. All entries must be in a PDF format.
7. The essay will happen on the day of the event.
8. The facilitator will be giving a time limit to the participants. They will be given an
hour(60 minutes) to finish their work.
9. All entries will be submitted right after the essay writing contest
10. All participants must observe these formats: Margin: Normal, Font Size: 12, Font
Style: Times New Roman, Title Font Size: 14, and Spacing 1.5.

pm. The file name format should be

4. The song should not be less than one (1) minute and not more than three (3) minutes.
5. The participants should also send written version of the song in a PDF format.
6. Participants are required to film themselves singing their own composition.
7. The filmed videos must be submitted on or before October 6, 2021
8. The best composer will be recognized on this event.

5. SHS Participant will read the story “Stone Soup” written by Shreya Sharma
6. Participants are required to film themselves reading the assigned story.
7. This contest is pre-recorded
8. The filmed videos must be submitted on or before September 28, 2021
9. The submitted videos should not be edited.
10. The video must be in landscape orientation
11. Send the video to the google classroom on or before October 4, 2021, Monday at

VIRTUAL ASIAN PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE

MECHANICS:

1. Participants must be bona fide students of Brokenshire College, Inc. Senior High School.
Students will only be allowed to participate if they have completed the Registration Form.
2. Each section must assign three (3) representatives and one (1) reserve just in case one of the
representatives will face some unexpected problems.

3. The assigned representatives per section will be encouraged to attend the online Debate
Orientation on September 28, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM before engaging to an actual debate
event. This is for the participants to be familiar with the nature, format, and rules and
regulations of Asian Parliamentary Debate.

5. Before the elimination rounds to commence, all sections per year level will be choosing their
team number through draw lots, spearheaded by the class advisers.
6. Participants are encouraged to wear formal attire for presentability.
7. On the actual debate competition, all participants are required to change and follow the
renaming format when entering the Zoom meeting (Debate_Section_Full Name) (e.g.,
Debate_Humility_Ivy Aguas).
8. Participants will be responsible for the stability of their internet connection.
9. This event follows the Asian Parliamentary format. To be exact, all members of the
government and opposition team will be given seven (7) minutes to deliver their respective
constructive speeches and four (4) minutes to deliver a reply speech. POIs may be raised by
the opposing side within six (6) minutes. No POIs shall be raised during reply speeches. As
for the speaking order, here are as follows:
Prime Minister (PM) > Leader of the Opposition (LO) > Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) >
Deputy Leader of the Opposition (DLO) > Government Whip (GW) >
Opposition Whip > Opposition Reply (OR) > Government Reply (GR)
10. The motions selected for this event are based on the relevant issues in the Philippines.
11. Each opposing team will be assigned a Breakout Room where the facilitator disseminates the
motion to be picked by the participants, decide which side to defend, and give time to plan
and craft constructive speeches for fifteen (15) minutes. Once the opposing teams have
decided their side, they shall assign the roles immediately and rename the Zoom account
again, following this format: (ROLE_Section_Full Name) (e.g., PM_Humility_Ivy Aguas).
12. All teams’ attention will be called to leave the Breakout Rooms within five (5) minutes to
ensure that they are ready.
13. While exchanging rebuttals, points of information (POIs), and points of order (POs), it is
strictly prohibited to use foul words and throw personal comments or attacks to the opposing
team to secure formality and respect with each other’s views.
14. Any violation of the guidelines and mechanics will be grounds for disqualification.
15. The winning team will be identified during the Finals. Also, awards will be given to the Best
Debate Team and the Best Debate Speaker based on the criteria for judging:

EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING
General Guidelines:
1. The participants must be a bona fide JHS and SHS students of Brokenshire College .
Students will only be allowed to participate if they have completed the Registration
Form.
2. Each team must have 1 participant on this event
3. The speech should be delivered strictly in English.
4. The participants shall deliver a 3-minute speech after a 1-3 minutes preparation.
5. The participants are required to open their cameras to ensure that they are the ones
actually speaking.
6. Upon submission of the results to the Committee, judges' decisions shall be considered
final and irrevocable.
7. This event is on-the-spot. Therefore, the internet’s stability must be present
Event Mechanics:
1. The facilitator will be presenting series of topics. The topics provided revolves around
the theme “ Interactive Communication and Learning from a distance”
2. They will be given 3 minutes to think and prepare. Afterwards, they will deliver the
speech into three (3) minutes.
3. A bell sound will give you a signal that the time is up.
Criteria:
 Content, clear organization. 35%
 Delivery. 35%
 Pronunciation, enunciation and diction. 20%
 Stage Presence (eye contact, poise, personality) 10%

Content, Clear Organization The speech is logical, has a clear thesis, and is presented
in a cohesive manner.

evident in the response of the audience.

Pronunciation, Enunciation The student speaker has a good volume of speech, proper
and Diction pronunciation, enunciation, and nonverbal cues, and
appear comfortable.

Stage Presence The capacity to command the audience's attention on stage


through impressiveness of one's demeanor and look.

MR. AND MS. ELOQUENCE or IMPROMPTOU SPEAKING


General Guidelines:
1. Participants must be a bona fide student of Brokenshire College. Students will only be
allowed to participate if they have completed the Registration Form.
2. Each team must submit two (2) names of the participants to the facilitator on or before
October 4, 2021. Failure to submit by then will be ground for disqualification.
3. All participants are required to be present to the Zoom meet on October 8, 2021. Their
name format on the day should be(e.g., MR.&MS
ELOQUENCE_FIRSTNAME_LASTNAME)
4. Participants will be responsible for the stability of their own Internet connectivity.
5. This event is on the spot therefore, the participants must be ready when the event
happens.
Event Mechanics:
1. The facilitator will be reading the topic twice. The bill ring once the time is up.
2. The student must relate their impromptu speech about the topic related to the given
them
3. Three minutes is the given time to all of the participants in delivering their speech.
