CD COMMISSIONING S-- / C-- 1--11.1/1

1 General
The instructions contained in this document (K 603426E_4) cover the installation and commissioning of
the frequency converter VF30/50/85BR in connection with the interface PTCM for new installations with
Miconic SX NI and for the modernization of elevator systems without replacing the elevator control as
well as for modernization including the replacement of the elevator control by Miconic LX/SX MOD.
These commissioning instructions describe the drive-related steps in detail and refer, where required, to
the relevant procedures for LX/SX MOD or SX NI elevator controls. The general steps concerning the
elevator controls are only roughly explained or even only referred to.
These commissioning instructions are based on the following hardware:
-- PIOVECL2/PIOVECL3 (PIOVECL)
-- PVEC
-- PTCM

Y These commissioning instructions are based on the Variodyn software kit, release ± 3.09 which contains:
-- VecSys SW ± V2.13
-- PTCM SW V3.01

Product Designation
VARIODYN 30/50/85 BR

With brake resistor (no energy recuperation)

Maximum apparent-power

Frequency converter

Product Family
The VVVF (Variable Voltage Variable Frequency) drive control VF30/50/85BR are members of the unified
Schindler VARIODYN frequency converter series.

Description of Functions
VF30/50/85BR supplies asynchronous motors with variable voltage and variable frequency. Integrated
intelligent power module has been used to provide digital high speed vector control for the hoisting motor.
any way nor used for manufacturing nor communicated
This design and information is our intellectual property.
It must without our written consent neither be copied in

This ensures full and precise control of motor speed and torque.

Modularity
With the PITCM modular interface option, VF30/50/85BR can be used with almost any type of elevator
control. This is of particular importance for modernization.

FEN and FEMH

Each frequency converter is equipped with a mains interference suppression filter FEN (fig. 1). The hoist-
to third parties.

ing motor filter FEMH is an option for FM/VM hoisting motors. With AM-type hoisting motor FEMH has to
be installed.

SH and SGRW
VF30BR with PIOVECL2 has no main contactor but is directly connected to the mains. VF30BR with
PIOVECL3 has only the one main contactor SH (fig. 1) whereas VF50/85BR (always with PIOVECL3) is
equipped with additional contactor SGRW (contactor charging resistor (fig. 1)).

Motor Tacho
The motor tacho is compulsory for VF50/85BR PTCM and for VF30BR PTCM with VKN >1.0 m/s. For
VF30BR VKN 1.0 m/s the motor tacho is recommended.

PITCM
The PITCM PCB kit is necessary if the elevator control does not generate the required 24 VDC signals.

Miconic SX NI
Miconic SX has no contactor SF, SF1 installed. Therefore, with Miconic SX VF30/50/85BR -- PIOVECL3
and SH (SGRW) contactor can be used.

Minimal Floor Distances and the related minimal Braking Distances

The following table gives rough information about the most important minimal distances in the shaft. For
more exact information, refer to “Precalculated Braking Distances” in this document.
The distances in tab. 1 (see next page) do not match exactly the minimal distances for VFBR with Mi-
conic SX because Miconic SX detects the floor-to-floor distances during the learning travel and calcu-
lates them afterwards according to the SX-algorithm as “normal distance” for VKN, “medium distance” for
to third parties.

GV2 (VKN/2) or “short floor-to-floor distance” for VKK.

If necessary, braking distances can be shortened to a small extent by decreasing the value of P163 as far
as motor output and FC power output allow it.

Support Equipment/Tools
Installation and commissioning requires the following tools and equipment:
-- Extraction tool for removing the flywheel (optional),
-- Multiple measuring device or multimeter Ri 20 kOhm/V,
-- Wiring material for the rewiring of the elevator control (only with MOD-solutions),
-- Tacho and tacho mounting kit (if equipped with motor tacho),
-- Relevant electrical rewiring diagram (only with MOD-solutions),
-- Electrical wiring diagram (only with NI-solutions),
-- Short Instruction for PTCM “PTCM Handling V3.01” J 155452E_2,
-- TK document “VF30/50/85BR Maintenance” K 603507E_1,
-- TK document “VF30/50/85BR PTCM Diagnostics” K 603427E_4.

Safety Notes

Attention! Never supply the hoisting motor MH by manually activating the contactors.

-- Bypassing circuits (e.g. the safety circuit) without express instructions is prohibited.
-- All electrical lines connected to or associated with controls or control components must be voltage-free
before beginning any wiring work on such components.
-- Rules for handling MOS/CMOS have to be applied when working on pcb.

Prerequisites
-- Personnel has product familiarity and corresponding qualifications acquired through training,
any way nor used for manufacturing nor communicated
This design and information is our intellectual property.
It must without our written consent neither be copied in

-- Spare place for VF30/50/85BR,

-- Elevator generally in good repair,
-- Counterweight is equal to car weight plus 50 % of the rated load,
-- Space for supplementary shaft information (only if the MOD-solution requires an additional SI).

Checks Prior to Installation Work

-- Check that reference documents correspond to the installation (e.g. electrical rewiring diagrams),
-- Check that the material kit conforms to the delivery documents,
to third parties.

-- Check against packaging list for any missing items,

-- Check for damage.

Important for modernization without replacement of the elevator control:

If you follow the steps in the order given the elevator can, if necessary, be put back into operation at short
notice at any time prior to the electrical rewiring and the following commissioning work.
Commissioning
In case the installation does not work according to this installation and commissioning instruction, refer to TK
document “VF30/50/85BR PTCM Diagnostics” K 603427E_4.

7 lnstallation without Motor Tacho

Y Note: Test “t5” serves to adapt the traveled distance SKA to the calculated distance SKA, which is stored
as a number of increments in the reference travel curve.
For Test “t5” it is inevitable that the distance “BB” between KBR and KS is the same on the millimeter
on those floors, witch are serviced during the test “t5”.
Since Miconic SX calculates/generates the braking initiation point KBR for each travel, dependent
on the leveling inaccuracy of the previous travel, the distance “BB” cannot be assured.
Result/Conclusion: Miconic SX can only be commissioned with motor tacho.

DANGER! Be prepared to switch off immediately if the elevator control starts a travel after the

9 Test “t5” (automatic adjustment P63, P64, P65)

Y Note: Test “t5” serves to adapt the traveled distance SKA to the calculated distance SKA, which is
stored as a number of increments in the reference travel curve.
For Test “t5” it is inevitable that the distance “BB” between KBR and KS is the same on the milli-
meter on those floors, which are serviced during the test “t5”.
Since Miconic SX calculates/generates the braking initiation point KBR for each travel, dependent
on the leveling inaccuracy of the previous travel, the distance “BB” cannot be assured.
Result/Conclusion: Miconic SX can only be commissioned with motor tacho.

Note: Test “t5” optimizes the parameters P63 (boost current), P64 (static slip compensation) and P65
(dynamic slip compensation). For that reason, the empty car has to be sent up and down bet-
ween the same two floors in the upper part of the shaft (max. counterweight) as many times as
required to complete test “t5”. The travels should not go to the uppermost floor (KNE). The travel-
ing distance must be long enough to travel for ² 1s with constant speed.
