PREFACE
The global mushroom industry has expanded very rapidly in the last two
decades by the addition of newer types of mushrooms for commercial
cultivation. However, mushroom as a vegetable is yet to find regular
place among the Indian consumers. Despite of favourable agro-climate,
abundance of agro wastes, relatively low-cost labour and a rich fungal
biodiversity, India has witnessed a lukewarm response in its growth. At
present, the total mushroom production in India is approximately 0.13
million tons. From 2010-2017, the mushroom industry in India has
registered an average growth rate of 4.3% per annum. Out of the total
mushroom produced, white button mushroom share is 73% followed by
oyster mushroom (16%), paddy straw mushroom (7%) and milky
mushroom (3%). Compared to other vegetables; per capita consumption
of mushrooms in India is meagre and data indicates it is less than 100
grams per year.

PRODUCT SELECTION
Indian agriculture exits today has come a long way from its present image of being
non-commercial and traditional in its method of farming. The recent trends in
consumer behaviour surges the demand for high quality niche products thus
business and investment opportunities in this sector have suddenly jumped
manifold. In the present diet conscious era, mushrooms are increasingly considered
as a future vegetable owing to its medicinal and nutritional properties and the
consumer demand for mushrooms markedly expanded in the recent years.
8
Even as the mushroom production and consumption are on the rise in rest of the
world, India witnesses a lukewarm response in its growth. Mushroom industry in
India is overwhelmingly focused on white button mushroom which is a highly
sophisticated and capital-intensive activity.
The recent production data (official data of ICAR-DMR, SOLAN) showing that,
the share of button mushroom in India is maximum amounting to 73% followed
by oyster mushroom which contributes about 16%. There are two main types of
mushroom growers in India, those who are growing white button mushroom round
the year under controlled conditions and seasonal growers who are growing button
mushrooms during the winter seasons in north western part of India.

Branding is one of the most important aspects of any business, large or small, retail
or B2B. An effective brand strategy gives you a major edge in increasingly
competitive markets. For a new product to the market we believe the Branding
works like a boosting and more powerful weapon to compete with the current
competitor. Branding makes it possible to create a mental picture about a product
in consumer’s mind. Brand represents the consumer’s perceptions and feelings
about a product and its performance.
Brand Name: We have selected “Truly Mushroom Chips” as our brand name.so
when people think about their health, they remind the name of truly mushroom
chips.
As we aware that once the brand got famous many of duplicate brand will try to
come into the market with the same name if the name is not registered. So, to
protect the brand name first of all, we will register our brand name. We also select
a logo for our brand, and this is:-
Brand Strategy: Our product will be a new local brand product as we offer it with
a new category (Mushroom Chips) and a name (Truly mushroom chips).
39
LABELLING
40

the firm to its end customer. Moreover it protects the goods from getting tamper

41
MARKET TESTING
The Test marketing is a tool used by the companies to check the viability of their
new product or a marketing campaign before it is being launched in the market on
a large scale.
The market test is generally carried out to ascertain the probable market success in
terms of new product’s performance, the level of acceptance of the product,
customer satisfaction, and the efficiency of the marketing campaign.
This test is conducted to know the consumer behaviour in terms of:-
Adoption: Whether the consumer accepts the product and will purchase it again.
Purchase Frequency: How often the consumer will buy the product.
To test the product in the market “Truly mushroom” will conduct the following
tests:-
Controlled Test:-

areas and ask them to keep its new product into their stores in return for a fee. The
truly mushroom controls the shelf position, displays, point of purchase promotions
and pricing.

Under this, the truly mushroom chooses the representative cities such as
(Jamnagar, Rajkot) where the full-fledged launch of our product is done
starting from the promotion campaign to the ultimate sales. Once it is
successful, the truly mushroom goes for the national launch.
42
PRICING STRATEGIES
Price is the value that is put to a product or service and is the result of a
complex set of calculations, research and understanding and risk taking ability.
Pricing is a process of setting the price for the product, it involves a series of step
to be followed to decide on price, and thus pricing is more relevant to marketing
decisions than price.
Pricing (decision) is one of the core areas of marketing.Particulary, when there are
price-sensitive consumers, pricing decisions should be taken with due care and
caution. Many products fail due to faulty pricing policies price is an important
factor for all marketing participants, including the manufacturers, middlemen, and
consumers as well.
There are different types of pricing strategy:
Psychological Pricing Strategies: Psychological pricing uses the customer's
emotional response to encourage sales. It is the most effective pricing
strategy to creating an illusion in customer mind.
Cost-Plus Pricing: Cost plus pricing is a cost-based method for setting the
prices of goods and services. Adding up all the manufacturing cost plus a
percentage of profit.
Product bundle pricing strategy: Combining several products or services
into a single comprehensive package for an all-inclusive reduced price.
Penetration Pricing: Penetration pricing strategy is mainly for new
products. Penetration pricing refers to a marketing strategy used by
businesses to attract customers to a new product Penetration pricing is the
practice of offering a low price for a new product or service during its initial
offering in order to lure customers away from competitors.
Premium pricing: High price is used as a defining criterion. Such pricing
strategies work in segments and industries where a strong competitive
advantage exists for the company.
Our decisions:-
Truly mushroom will adopts the “Penetration Pricing Policy” that means
we offer our mushroom chips at Low Price in the market as we are
introducing a new product, thus it will helps in building sales quickly & result
in large market share as well as to secure high volumes.
We have chosen the penetration pricing because the market is highly sensitive, so
low price generates additional sales & firm maintain low price position long to
keep out competition.
43
DISTRIBUTION STRATEGIES
Channel distribution
Distribution channel consists of the set people & firms involved in transfer of tittle
to a product as the product moves from producer to ultimate customer or business
user.
There are various channel of distribution such as:-
Zero level channel
Producing on place and customer will buy from producer directly. There
will be no distribution channel.
PRODUCER CONSUMER
Multi-level channel
Using two or more different channels to distribute goods and services.
44
Our decisions:-
As a new brand in the market, we should create good distributor channels.
We do not have enough budgets for the distribution. We will distribute our
product to retailer. So, we are following “One Channel” strategy for our
new product.
Exclusive Distribution:
Limiting the distribution to only one intermediary in the territory.
Intensive distribution:
Distribute from as many outlets as possible to provide location convenience.
Selective distribution:
Appoint several but not all retailers.
Our decisions:-
Our product is convenience type good so we will select Intensive
distribution. We will distribute our product in different locations like hospitals,
super shops, malls, grocery shops etc.
In all over India.

45
PROMOTION STRATEGIES
Market promotion, also called marketing promotion, actually involves marketing
communication. Market promotion includes specific promotional tools by which
firms attempt to inform, persuade, & remind consumers, directly or indirectly,
about the products & brand they sell.
Market promotion includes five tools, such as:-
Advertising
Advertising is a dominant element of market promotion mix. Advertising is an act
of dealing with relevant aspects relating to advertisement.it is the most popular &
widely practised tool of market promotion, moreover it is used to inform, attract,
& convince the valued customers.
Hence truly mushroom uses following advertisement to market its product:-
Social Media Advertising-social media advertising is the most powerful tool of
advertising our product because the world is moving towards digital era & most of
the people spend their time on social media platform such as instagram etc.
46
Personal selling:-
Personal selling is another important element of promotion mix.
Personal selling is also is an act of teaching, educating, and assisting people to
purchase & use the product. A salesmen performs personal selling task.it includes
an oral & face to face & personal conversation with the customer.
Hence truly mushroom form the teams of salesmen’s who will promote & sell the
products to the customer face to face in different locations & places in the market.
Moreover it will helps to measure the immediate feedback of the customer about
the product.
47
Sales promotion:-
Sales promotion covers those marketing activities other than advertising,
publicity & personal selling that stimulate consumer purchasing. Sales
promotion mainly involves short-term & non-routine incentives offered to
dealers, salesmen & consumers.
Sales promotion efforts also improves firm’s competitive position.
Hence truly mushroom use the following sales promotion-
Bundle discounts: - These deals are a great way to reduce unsold inventory.
It includes selling bundled products at a price lesser than when those number
of products are bought separately.
48
Publicity:-
Publicity is also a way of mass communication. It is not a paid form of mass
communication that involves getting favourable response of buyers by placing
commercially significant news in mass media. Publicity is not paid for by the
organisation. Publicity comes from reporters, columnists, and journalists. It can
be considered as a part of public relations.
Hence truly mushroom will choose the following means for its publicity of
mushroom chips:-
Newspaper column: It is an editorial article written on the particular topic in
newspaper thus, truly mushroom will try to gather the large audience through
by giving its article in prestige newspaper which is widely distributed in India,
