How life began is a fundamental question that all of us seek to answer.

Responses to it may
lead us to a more meaningful living for we are able to know where we came from and why we are
here. Answers to these questions may give us two options either to believe that we are a product
of the chemical and physical laws of nature or we have been formed by some supernatural force
or deity. Many accounts and theories today were used as bases of our creation and of the earth.

Francis Crick, co-discoverer of DNA, has said that “The origin of life appears to be almost a
miracle, so many are the conditions which would have to be satisfied to get it going.” The video
entitled “Story of the Earth” showed that the earth billion years ago is hot, molten and does not
support life, within the ocean of doom. 4.5 billion years ago, the planet was too hot to support life
for any living thing cannot withstand the heat of the lava. Much of the Earth was molten because of
extreme volcanism and frequent collisions with other bodies. This starting point of the video is
surprisingly great, thinking that it would lead into the only planet known to have an atmosphere
containing oxygen, vast amounts of liquid water and of course life. As I watched the video, there
are some parts or most that I can’t comprehend. Presenting the video was more amazing than just
by reading books, but there are really things I could hardly understand watching the video rather
than just by reading books. But nevertheless I would go on with some of my understandings about
the events that happened on the video. The earth back then suffered from the rapid and
continuous falling of meteorites. When this ended, the earth cooled and its surface solidified to a
crust. Hundreds of millions of years ago supercontinents have assembled and broke apart. On
Earth, everything is just right for life to exist. It's warm, but not too warm. And it has water, but not
too much water. The history of life on earth initially began with prokaryotic cells such as bacteria.
Multicellular evolved millions of years later. This scientific views is the belief that life originated by
a number of scientific processes and there was no input from a god of any kind at all. I believe that
life was created by chemical means; however, I do not believe that this was totally a scientific
process; I think that it was someway controlled by a divine influence. There are many theories
where life came from, but none of them is proven to be the right one. The obvious theory that life
originated on earth is not accepted by everyone.

The acceptance whether the earth is formed by any natural means of science or some of
the supernatural events we happened to believe will determine how we will establish a belief
system to determine one’s place in the world. If we limit what explanations we are willing to accept
for the origin of life, we could be closing our eyes to reality.
