 Check that this question paper contains 15 questions

CLASS- IX
SCIENCE (086)
Time Allowed: 2 hours Maximum Marks: 40
General Instructions:

1. All questions are compulsory.

2. The question paper has three sections and 15 questions. All questions are compulsory.
3. Sectional has 7 questions of 2 marks each; Section B has 6 questions of 3 marks each;
and Section has 2 case based questions of 4 marks each.
4. Internal choices have been provided in some questions. A student has to attempt only
one of the alternatives in such questions.
================================================================
SECTION - A
1 A body of mass 6 kg is moving with velocity 12 m/s. When a force is applied, 2
it's velocity changed to 16 m/s. Calculate it's kinetic energy.
2 (i) State two conditions necessary for work done. 2
(ii) Establish the relationship between joule and erg.
OR
A ball is thrown vertically upward with a velocity of 12 m/s. If the mass of
the ball is 2 kg, calculate the potential energy at maximum height.
3 Verify by calculating that 2
(a) 5 moles of CO2 and 5 moles of H2O do not have the same mass.
(b) 240 g of calcium and 240 g magnesium elements have a mole ratio of 3:5.
4 Show diagramatically the electron distributions in a sodium atom and a 2
sodium ion.
5 Name any four diseases transmitted through vectors. 2
OR
What is an antibiotic ? Give two examples.
6 Composition of the nuclei of two atomic species X and Y are 2
given as under
X Y
Protons = 6 6
Neutrons = 6 8
Give the mass numbers of X and Y. What is the relation between the two
species?

7 Write down the electron distribution of chlorine atom. How many electrons 2
are there in the L shell?
OR
If in an atom of an element 5 electrons are present in its M shell.
(a) Write the name of the element.
(b) Write its atomic number.

SECTION - B
8 Give any three differences between mass and weight. 3
9 (i) What is free fall? 3
(ii) The value of g increases from Equator to pole . Why?
(iii) What is the SI unit of universal gravitational constant?
10 Differentiate between acute diseases and chronic diseases. 3
OR
(i) What are the various ways to prevent the diseases?
(ii) What is immunisation ?
11 What is a disease? How many types of diseases have you studied? Give 3
examples.
12 Enlist the conclusions drawn by Rutherford from his α-ray scattering 3
experiment.
13 Convert into mole. 3
(a) 12 g of oxygen gas
(b) 20 g of water
(c) 22 g of carbon dioxide.
OR
What is the mass of—
(a) 1 mole of nitrogen atoms?
(b) 4 moles of aluminium atoms (Atomic mass of aluminium= 27)?
(c) 10 moles of sodium sulphite (Na2SO3)?

SECTION – C
This section has 02 case-based questions (14 and 15). Each case is followed by 03 sub-
questions (a, b and c). Parts a and b are compulsory. However, an internal choice has
been provided in part c.
14 The energy of a body due to its rest is known as potential energy. Nikhil 4
dropped a 5 kg and a 1 kg stone from a certain height and observed that the 5
kg stone damages more than the 1 kg. Again he dropped a 1 kg stone from 10
m height and another 1 kg stone from a height of 4 m estimated their potential
energy. He concludes that potential energy of a body depends on their mass
and height above the ground.
(a) What kind of energy possessed by a body due to its rest?
(b) Name the factors on which potential energy depends.
(c) (i) If the height above the ground is doubled, how many times it's potential
energy change ?
(ii) If both mass and height of a body is doubled, how many times it's
potential energy change?

OR
A boy of mass 50 kg runs up a staircase of 45 steps. If the height of each step
of the staircase is 15 cm , find its potential energy. ( Given , g = 10 m/s 2 )
15 Kamla prepared aqueous solutions of barium chloride and sodium sulphate. 4
She weighed them separately and then mixed them in a beaker. A white
precipitate was immediately formed. She filtered the precipitate, dried it and
then weighed it. After reading this narration, answer the following questions :
(a) Will the weight of the precipitate be the same as that of the reactants
before mixing?
(b) Which law of chemical combination does this support?
(c) In a reaction, 5.3 g of sodium carbonate reacted with 6 g of ethanoic acid.
The products were 2.2 g of carbon dioxide, 0.9 g water and sodium
ethanoate. Calculate the mass of sodium ethanoate obtained.
OR
20.8 g of barium chloride reacted with 14.2 g of sodium sulphate to form
11.7g of sodium chloride. Calculate The amount of barlum sulphate formed in
the above reaction.
