Unit Unit 1 – Introducing Oneself
Outcomes At the end of Unit 1, the students will be able to:
1) Demonstrates name spelling.
2) Produce cardinal numbers 1 through 10 and 11 through 15.
3) Produce fist letters in names.
4) Demonstrate the difference on descriptions if same or different.
5) Produce signing in a dialogue.
6) Describe the pair and demonstrate if it is same or different.
7) Demonstrate by asking who.
8) Describe shapes and where to place above, below or inside.
9) Produce on giving commands for objects in the classroom.
10) Understanding how to follow the instructions in signing.
11) Demonstrate by how to get attention of another deaf person.

Lesson Lesson 1:2 - Produce correct number forms


Outcomes At the end of this lesson 1:2, the students will be able to:
1) Demonstrate cardinal numbers 1 to 5, palm faces in and
spread fingers apart when signing the numbers.
2) Demonstrate cardinal numbers 6 to 9, palm faces out, finger
and thumb don’t overlap and tap fingers with thumb twice.
3) Demonstrate cardinal number 10, extend thumb upward and rock
hand back and forth.

LESSON PROCEDURE
Activity Description Length
Roll Call/ Teacher throws a small soft ball to a student and 5 mins
Opening fingerspell their first name. Then, teacher tells them to
pass/throw the soft ball to other student, and that student
spells the next student’s first name and so on.
Review Opening conversations about “Getting to Know You” and 10 mins
answering to Yes/No questions about the previous lesson
information.

Areas of focus:
1) Focus new lesson on cardinal numbers with visual aids
(pictures of items for numbers).
2) Ask for specific information on numbers 1 to 10.
3) Incorporates on how many and counting.
4) Displaying appropriate number signs (palm faces in
and palm faces out).
5) Practicing the numbers 1 to 10.
Guided Divide the class into groups of two: 10 mins
Practice 1) Asking questions on how many and counting.
Student practice asking about things that other students
have in the classroom.
2) Teacher moves among students and assesses
student work. When the students are done practicing the
numbers, teacher will ask them to practice the numbers at
home by counting things around in the house, counting the
money, and things that student want to practice on.

Independent Teacher will have students practice the number 1 – 10 in the 10 mins
group activity then the pairs facing each other, identify how

One person signs and the other listens. The signer


narrates about what is it in the classroom. The listener asks
questions on how many things or how much things in the
classroom. Then, during listener’s turn, describes what
signer narrated. And so on until the last group for group
activities wrap up.

group activity frequently and correct the sign that relates to
the numbers.
Closure Quickly ask students to share what they’ve learned during 5 mins
class. Explain upcoming assignment. Answer questions.

Assessment Informal: During paired and group activities, use informal N/A
assessment techniques such as asking to repeat, observe,
show puzzled face, rephrase, nod, clarify, expand, kimp, etc.
