6.2 Fuel Supply

For re-filling of the day tank of the Prime diesel generators, underground diesel storage tanks
shall be provided at the pumping station.

The following requirements for underground diesel storage tanks shall apply:

x The volume of the underground diesel storage tank shall be sufficient for at least 15
days of continuous operation of the generator at full capacity.
x The underground storage tanks shall be FRP (Fibre-reinforced plastic) tanks.
x Tanks shall be double walled with appropriate leak detection system.
x Tanks shall be equipped with submerged pumps in a one duty plus one standby
configuration, which can be manually switched on/off from the emergency generator
room and with automatic on/off switching when the supplied daily tank reaches low or
high level.
x Tanks shall be buried with an earth cover of 0.8 to 1.0 m (consider buoyancy).
x Dome and filling shaft shall be located in roofed over positions.
x Local level indicator shall be provided at a position to be easily read during re-filling by
tanker truck.
x High- and low-level switches shall be installed for monitoring and alarm indication.
x Tanks shall be further equipped with:
x vent pipe with vermin screen
x outlet pipe and connection pipe with valves to the daily fuel tanks
x filling pipework including fittings, isolation valve, and end cap of non-sparking material
and inscription for fuel type
x drain pipe with valve and end cap
x Provisions shall be made at the filling point to avoid any fuel spillage into the soil.
x The fuel pump control system, including the level and leak detection monitoring of the
underground storage tank shall be installed in the Prime Generator. Selected status
and alarm signals shall be made available for remote indication in the station control
room.
x The diesel fuel piping material shall be carbon steel with coating as per project
specifications. Galvanized piping shall not be used.

6.3 Fire Protection Systems

For fire protection system the latest relevant version of the HCIS safety and

directives shall be applied in this project by Contractor.

The supplier of the fire protection system shall be licensed and registered to supply, install,
test, inspect and maintain specific fire protection systems (water based system, automatic
extinguishing system etc.) in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations of the KSA
including approval by HCIS.
