Dear Sir,

MOTIVATIONAL LETTER: MASTERS IN BIOINFORMATICS

Eight years ago, I’d like to think I was in the right place at the right time. A
fourteen-year-old teenager trying to figure out the questions in life, career and the path
to possible greatness; I was fortunate to be in convocation with high-flying achievers
who took time off to share their unique success stories. I remember how I sat through
the stimulating episodes thinking to myself “that’s the way to go” after one speaker had
spoken, only to admit not long after, that the successive speaker’s story made a better
impression than the former. Clearly, I started with an opinion of sorts, not knowing which
path I wanted to take, but rather chasing the shadows of those who had gone ahead.

Fast forward. It's 2022; cars have gone electric, trade has become digital, people are
relocating to Mars and just when we were beginning to make headway with the
treatment of cancers, we woke up to the scare of mutating viruses. The world is not
what it used to be some 10, 15 years ago and is greatly tipped to be even much
different in a few years to come.

In the present day, the ability to assess and analyze huge data presents enormous
opportunities all around the world. The importance of Bioinformatics for biological
research cannot be overemphasized with the recent pandemic strengthening its claims
even further. The scope of what can be done with biological data is beyond telling and
even bigger prospects await in the nearest future. Despite the global shift towards
bioinformatics, the African progression remains underwhelming when viewed through
the lens of the Western drift.
In pursuit of the Masters in Bioinformatics program, I look forward to becoming a part of
the network of indigenous African scientists with the necessary knowledge and skills to
drive and sustain impactful research in the mandated areas of interest. Nestled on a
foundation of deep seated willingness to learn, I combine the traits of utter
thoroughness, great attention to detail and possessing an infectious culture of
excellence. Having swept four academic excellence awards and a First Class Honors to
show for excellent academic exploits throughout my undergraduate education, I am
greatly encouraged that the challenge of a Masters in Bioinformatics, however grand it
may be, can and will be handled with due dexterity. My previous experience as a
Research and Teaching Assistant further places me in good standing to contribute
significantly beyond course work.

I look forward to engaging with the likes of Prof. Adebiyi and the lovely faculty at
Covenant University, towards the vision of intensifying research in Africa. Looking
forward to the best response.

Thank you.
