BASIC METHOD STATEMENT

Customer: PizzaExpress Restaurants


Location: PizzaExpress: Bath

Unit Ref: Installation of air conditioning

1.0 Description of work

1.1 Removal of existing discharge duct/silencer.


Removal and degas of the existing compressors.
1.2 Ensure the electrical supply to the fan motor is isolated and the
isolator is locked off – for remote isolators, notice to be posted to
ensure the isolator is not turned on accidentally.
1.3 Mechanically remove the existing duct works and silencer by
unscrewing the fixing screws, ensure items are supported prior to
unbolting.
1.4 All redundant materials to be removed from floor level and placed
into skip provided by others.

2.0 Installation of new DX coil & ductwork

2.1 Position new replacement DX coils – care to be taken to ensure no


damage to delicate coil fins or coil connections and headers.
2.2 New coils to be secured into position using the correct fixings.
2.3 Once each DX coil is installed new ductwork is to be connected.
2.4 On completion of new ductworks check for any possible air leaks
and seal all joints if required.

3.0 Installation of new condenser unit

3.1 Identify correct position for new units.


3.2 Plant Movement will be responsible for the transportation of the new
condenser units.
3.3 Access to the roof area will be via the Skylight pointed out during the
site meetings, others will be responsible for the removal and
replacement of the Skylight.
3.4 Once in position the new units will be placed on anti-vibration pads
to protect the roof materials.
4.0 Installation of DX pipe works

4.1 Detail of the position of the attenuators is shown on the detail


drawing in the site file.
4.2 Remove existing weather cowl.
4.3 Install any supplied brackets or support arrangement as detailed on
the drawings.
4.4 If required, supports to be secured to the existing unit base frame
using nuts and bolts – holes to be drilled using electric hand held
drill.
4.5 New acoustic attenuator to be positioned onto the support frame –
caution should be used as attenuators are often heavy – please ensure
the correct lifting procedures are followed.

5.0 Statement of other work to be completed

5.1 Filters to be replaced on completion of all other works.

6.0 Statement of whom will carry out the work

6.1 Offloading and moving parts into position to be carried out by K&I
Engineers unless stated previously.

7.0 Control measure to be used

7.1 All operatives to be advised by on site riggers whilst working on


outer roof.
7.2 Operators to comply with any on site safety and welfare rules and
regulations issued by the Main Contractor.
7.3 Observation and compliance with the control measures described in
the relevant risk assessments.
7.4 Observation and compliance with on site health and safety rules and
any temporary and amended safety regulations.

of procedures and good working practices.
10.0 Methods to eliminate risks

10.1 Do not attempt to lift any object that you do not feel comfortable lifting
alone. Seek assistance with lifting.
10.2 Always plan each lift and seek advice or assistance if necessary.
• Place feet apart with the leading leg forward.
• Get a firm grip – keep arms inside the area formed by your legs.
• Lift smoothly – don’t jerk.
• Move your feet – don’t twist your body.
• Keep the load close in to your body.
• If you need to, put the load down and adjust the lift.
• Use mechanical assistance wherever possible.
10.3 Where practical only carry one item at a time.
10.4 Ensure load is secure and contained.
10.5 Ensure a firm grip is maintained/maintainable.
10.6 Wear gloves and overall / protective workwear.
10.7 Ensure all work areas and walkways are well illuminated and free from
obstructions.
10.8 Use of 110v or battery power tools with assistant operative in attendance.
10.9 Position power cable away from any likely cause of damage.
10.10 Ensure power tools and all cables have been checked and inspected for
damage and leakage to earth,
10.11 Ensure power tools are not subject to the possibility of water ingress into
current carrying parts (keep power tools and cables clear of water).
10.12 All personnel undertaking work in accordance with this method statement
must be familiar with its contents.
10.13 VES are responsible for ensuring this method statement and its procedures
are adhered to, and only competent personnel carry out the work. The
supervisor to keep workforce fully informed on all appropriate health and
safety and welfare procedures.
10.14 Secure hand held tools and equipment to wrist or tool belt wherever
reasonably practical.

11.0 Material and personnel access

11.1 Personnel access will be via the main entrance door, via the internal
stairways to the first floor roof.
11.2 Access out on to the roof is via a window and steps, which are in the
maintenance office. Ensure that the steps have been made safe to use.
11.3 Materials access is via the front or rear access road as directed – deliveries
to be made on ………………………………to ensure minimum disruption.
12.0 Special consideration – personal protection, permits, etc.
