(Short-Term)
September 2009 - February 2010

Short-Term Program of the Nagoya University


Global Environmental Leaders Program will
receive students from ASEAN and surrounding
countries and provide them essential educational
components of the Master’s Program to enable
students acquire deep understanding of scientific
mechanism of environmental problems,
management technologies, and policy measures,
covering Climate Change Mitigation and Adaption,
Water and Waste Management,
and Biodiversity Conservation.
All instructions will be provided in English.
By offering a mutual learning environment
between Japanese and international students,
the Program strengthens students’ international
communication and professional skills which are
essential to be global environmental leaders.

ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATION


- Master's course students in the ASEAN countries, Australia,
New Zealand, and India*
- Qualified and recommended by the original university
- Excellent academic records in related study areas
- Excellent English skills
* Students at universities with academic agreements with Nagoya University
(listed below) are given priority in the selection.

The program is primarily designed as a two year master’s program


but also will offer a six month short-term program. Students in the
short-term program participate in a part of the two-year curriculums
and share important lectures on environmental technology
and policy development with students in the master’s program.

Listed are universities in the designated countries with which Nagoya University has
inter-university/school academic exchange agreements with tuition waiver.
Towards Future Environmental Leaders.
In the short-term program,
students choose one from the three study areas
and take relevant classes during six month stay.
Students also choose an academic advisor
and participate in the advisor's seminars and lessons.
Practical lectures are also provided through active contribution
by prominent external practitioners from companies
and local governments in the Nagoya-Chubu Region.

Group projects involving discussion, survey and analysis, and


presentation of the study result are conducted through mutual
learning between Japanese and international students. Such activity
enables students to strengthen their international communication
skills which are essential to be global environmental leaders.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Travel expense: 260,000 Japanese Yen
Monthly allowance: 130,000 Japanese Yen

necessary procedure and basic living in Japan
Housing assistance

Over 1,200 international students are currently studying at Nagoya University.


The Bureau of International Affairs, ECIS (Education Center for International
Students), and the Departments and Graduate Schools at Nagoya University
are working together to support international students’ campus and daily lives.

The faculties and staffs at the Global Environmental Leaders Program


have abundant experience in international students support so that English
assistance is always available upon students’ needs.
