ABOUT: Sex Education / RH Bill

RA 10354, A Must

[The Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012 (RA 10354), known as Reproductive
Health (RH) Bill that has been signed years ago, guarantees free access to sex education, modern
contraceptives, fertility control and maternal care services for all citizens - BACKGROUND]. [ Regardless of
the imposed law, many people, especially the Church community opposes the idea as it is said to be ‘anti-life’-
CLAIM.] [This essay will discuss about the advantages of this law – THESIS STATEMENT.]

FIRST BODY PARAGRAPH [Adolescent and indigenous women are one of the most affected citizens due to
the lack of policies regarding reproductive health. Without this law, women are going to be more prone to
misfortunes such as mistimed pregnancies, maternal deaths, infant mortality, and increasing abortion rates.
Access to Emergency Contraception (EC) will also help women rape victims to prevent unwanted pregnancies,
which is valid, as no women deserves or wants to experience the abuse – FIRST CLAIM/REASON.]

SECOND BODY PARAGRAPH [This will also lessen the negative impact to poor and large-numbered
families. They lack access to proper education and health services, which results to children being forced to
work at a young age. Therefore, sex education is a must, which will cover the teaching of proper use of
contraceptives, and proper family planning for adolescents – SECOND CLAIM/REASON].

THIRD BODY PARAGRAPH [HIV/AIDS is still one of the major problems our country is facing until now, as
cases continue to rise. Therefore, a need to reach the youth to be educated with this disease that can be
transmitted via unprotected sexual intercourse – THIRD CLAIM/REASON/]

[Numerous people are against the idea of the imposed law, especially the Church communities as they referred
this as ‘anti-life’. For them, restraint to life means restraint to geese that lays golden eggs –
COUNTERCLAIM.] [However, with the unfair system that currently rules our world, this will only grow more
stems of problems. It is evident with statistics and research studies that the rapid growth of population across
the globe is directly proportional to the growth of poverty, pollution, and other economic problems –
REBUTTAL.]

[According to them, this law also violates life in a way that it will promote promiscuity among the youth –
COUNTERCLAIM]. [This idea somehow has a point, however, with the proper sex education among
adolescents, which must educate them about the importance of family planning and responsible use of
contraceptives. An effective education must also be proposed by the education sector – REBUTTAL].

CONCLUSION - Overall, RA 1054 gives us a clear policy for reproductive health care. From this, we have the
right to have a choice while being an advocate of responsible and natural family planning.
