Task
1. You are required to deliver a 5-minute speech on any topic of your choice.
2. This individual assignment will be conducted during your face-to-face tutorial classes in the
presence of your tutor and classmates (from the same tutorial group).
3. The purpose of your speech should be either to inform, to persuade or to motivate the
audience.
4. Your speech should contain an introduction, 3 main points with supporting details and a
conclusion.
Objective of Assignment
The objectives of this assignment are as below:
- to enable students to put into practice what they have learnt about public speaking
(Lecture 2, 3 and 4)
- to develop their confidence speaking in front of an audience.
Instructions to Students
1. Start to prepare your speech by selecting a topic. Take into consideration all the important
criteria of selecting a topic (refer to Lecture 2).
2. Be clear about the purpose of your speech (either to inform, to persuade or to motivate).
3. You are required to submit your topic to your tutor by Week 5.
4. Organise the contents of your speech in a systematic manner (refer to Lecture 3).
5. You are required to present your speech during your Tutorial class starting from Week 7.
6. During your presentation, establish good eye contact by not reading from a text or script.
7. Take into consideration all the important aspects in public speaking presentations (refer to
Lecture 4).

Allocation of Marks
You will be graded in the following areas during your presentation on a total of 60 marks.
