1. Bernoulli equation
a) Write (one form of ) Bernoulli’s equation and state what conditions must be satisfied for the
equation to hold.

b) Apply the Bernoulli equation to obtain the velocity of the jet issuing from an orifice on the wall
of a reservoir h below the water when h=10m.

b) Write the equation of conservation of momentum for this portion of fluid in the axial direction of
the pipe assuming that the cross section does not change (A=0) so that the direction normal to
the pipe wall is perpendicular to the pipe axis. The axis of the cylinder is inclined from
horizontal by angle .
The forces are the shear stress on the pipe wall and pressure at two cross sections at the ends of
the cylinder.
