over these days, please keep them free.

Thursday 16th June – Private view 6pm to 9pm.

I really want to thank you all for making this work of mine a great
one. I know your all going to be great as long as you understand
what its about. So this is a brief initial guideline / introduction
before we begin discussing, rehearsing and making good live art.

Visual
In the screen-printing studio there will be 4 plinths flush against the
wall, each with a receipt printer and computer monitor. These are
your desks. There will also be a live projection of the graph and a
flat screen with the website on.

Costumes
Do you all have suits? White shirts, Tie, smart trousers and smart
shoes. Think greasy bankers. We will provide nametags.

The emotional stock market tracks emotional terms on twitter,

visualizing their frequency on a graph and printing them on
receipts. The work critiques current political interest in the value of
social wellbeing.

Performer introduction
‘Using new technology we can now monitor societies wellbeing for
social science and market trading’.

The emotional stock market is fictitious. It is our role as performers

to present it as a functional, factual market. We are performing this
as a ground breaking, new, innovative market that is just starting
up. The Private view is the grand opening. The aim is to get as
many people participating (by becoming shareholders) as possible.

The stock market installation is not a trading ground. NO MONEY

IS INVOLVED – WE ARE GIVING AWAY SHARES FOR FREE
It replicates a trading fair that introduces new businesses to
wealthy business owners. We are promoting this new market
based upon human emotions. This is not the market floor, more a
charming floor for starting out business Your role is similar to a
charity fundraiser, persuading potential investors to become
shareholders. We are giving away shares to help develop the
emotional stock market. (for one night only) Every single person
will be an asset to that emotional enterprise.

The Big Sell

As a seller you want as many people as possible to become

shareholders in your emotional enterprise. Be charming, friendly
and seductive, convince them that your emotion is the one to
become a shareholder in. Each person receives some shares
(ripped from receipt printer) a badge and must sign their business
card.

Persuasion techniques –

(capital)Value of shares – the % on the bargraph is the cost price

of 1 share in your emotion. Each tweet is worth money. If you offer
20 shares you can multiply the cost of one (on the bar graph) by
20.

Exclusive – this is the first emotional stock market. You are a

shareholder for life.

Future growth – may not be worth much now, but we can predict
‘sadness’ is on the rise.
The tweets – read out the shares you are offering. ‘All that could
be yours. ‘

The badge/ business card – this is a bonus and people should

not just invest to get the badge.

Charm - The participant would be a great asset to the company.

They possess good assets.

As a shareholder or you are assured maximum benefits from

assets of happiness.

Their investment is only going to go up as people carry on feeling.

Giving away shares that carry financial worth. There is No

immediate financial return.

Potential FAQ
People are going to be skeptical, its your job to make them
comfortable with participating.
Because of our age we are naive in this area, I will be handing out
terminology lists but I don’t want you to answer difficult questions.
If we are not consistent than the work falls apart. It will be better to
act suspicious rather than act naïve. (e.g. if you don’t know an
awnser just say , I cant tell you that right now’)

Q. When / where can I cash in my shares?

(we cannot buy these shares back of them, as the business owner
you don’t want your shareholders to sell their shares)

Awnsers – we can assure you that your investment can only

increase in capital return.
If for any reason these emotions do not suit you anymore, you can
trade them with other emotions.

Q. Why are you giving them away for free?

A. This is a new, growing market for emotional wellbeing and this

is just starting up. we are looking for as many shareholders as
possible to instigate capital growth. There is no shortage of human
emotions, so im able to give you this for free. We hope as a
shareholder you will spread the word and more interest into the
stock market will come from this exchange.

Q. Why me?

A. You are the exact person we want to represent ‘sadness,

happiness, love’. You would benefit this emotional enterprise
greatly. You seem to possess all the qualities needed to be a
valuable shareholder.

The Lingo

I will be handing out terminology soon but all this will come from us
practicing and being well rehearsed. As long as we all know what
we are doing and understand my crazy idea this should be
fantastic.
