Leadership and organization are two concepts that complement each other. It can be said that
where there is organization there is a leader. Leadership is the action of leading people in an
organization towards achieving goals. Leaders do this by influencing employee behaviors in
several ways. A leader sets a clear vision for the organization, motivates employees, guides
employees through the work process and builds morale. Organisation may be defined as a group
of individuals, large or small, that iscooperating under the direction of executive leadership in
accomplishment of certain common object. The objective of this paper is to explain the role of
leadership in the achievement of goals in an organisation.
Leadership is someone’s ability to influence others, so that they behave as desired by the leader
(Soekanto, 2012, p. 250). Organizing members by coordinating all parties within the
organization is one of ways in which a leader can achieve organizational goals. Organizations
have complex structures that consists of many divisions which require leadership so as to direct
and guide members of the organization. Every organization has set goals that need to be attained
in a specified time frame. Therefore, a leader has a role in controlling and coordinating the
organizational members so as to meet and achieve the set goals (Hartog & Koopman, 2001).
In conclusion, this paper discussed the role of a leadership in the achievement of goals in an
organization. There are many roles of leadership in the achievement of goals in an organization
but this paper focused on two roles. These are organizing and controlling members of the
organization and motivating them in order to achieve high outputs.
