Executive Summary
The Philippines is regarded as one of the countries in the world that has a high
consumption of plastics. A report from the World Bank says that "The Philippines is the
third largest contributor with an estimated 0.75 million metric tons of mismanaged
plastic entering the ocean every year." This translates to almost 60 billion sachets a
year.

The use of plastics is almost impossible to stop as plastic bags are utilized in nearly
every industry. Even in our everyday lives, we use plastic as the primary container for
our purchases. Every item on our list comes with a plastic bag attached.

Nevertheless, we forget to take into account the harmful effects of plastics on the
environment. After being used, these plastic bags become hazardous trash both in
landfills that can cause floods and in the ocean that can kill thousands of animals. And
as plastic bags are harmful to the environment, they are also very unfashionable.
Imagine going to the supermarket with so many plastic bags in your hand.

This is why we propose Totes - an eco-friendly, user-friendly, and fashionable tote bag
that can be kept in a pouch when not in use.

Eco-friendly. Totes is totally and completely eco-friendly as it can be used as a


substitute for plastic bags and can be reused several times. It is significantly less
expensive in the long run than utilizing plastic for every purchase.

These tote bags will be constructed with strong, flexible, and recyclable materials
with an image or customized message imprinted on it. Totes will also utilize local
materials in Aurora which are “katsa” or flour sacks for the tote bag as well as
“sabutan” for the pouch of the tote bag.

User-friendly. The pouch, which is made of “sabutan” will hold the tote bag,
making it more portable that can be carried and used anywhere, anytime.

Similarly, inside Totes is a single pocket with a zipper where coins and/or other
small objects can be stored. A waterproof cloth inside the bag is also designed in
Totes so you can still put moist stuff in it.

Fashionable. With its minimalist design and easy-on-the-eyes hue, Totes can be
matched with any of your outfits and can complete your outfit of the day
(OOTDs).

Because with Totes, you can be responsibly fashionable.

Product Description
A bag is a prime necessity when running an errand and doing businesses with
acquaintances. It lifts our baggage and daily essentials like make-ups, school materials,
stuff for outings/picnics, and the like. For a person who is always on-the-go in dealing
with daily tasks, there has to be a bag that is easy to use and wear. And a bag that
weighs as light as a cloth is perfect as a go-to material.

Totes hopes to provide this comfort and ease to its customers. Sized as 13 by 11
inches, the bag is made up of “katsa” fabric. This fabric is multipurpose and can be
used in medicine, dressmaking, and even dusting. It is readily available in Aurora and is
known for its affordable and durable textile. Hence, it is reusable and biodegradable.

Totes, in addition, seeks to introduce a foldable tote bag that fits in your pocket so that
when a bag is needed in an impromptu get away, you can come prepared by simply
handing out a folded cloth bag to your peers. Hence, the bag comes with a “katsa-
sabutan” pouch so that it can be preserved inside and kept when not in use.

The designs of the bags aim to advocate a cleaner and healthier environment,
promote Baler’s eco-tourism, and represent the characters and personality of
individuals. Totes can be a stream of advocacy about preserving the environment and
promoting a healthy life. The designs in front of the bag are minimalist yet it represents
words, quotes, and phrases associated with measures to phase out the consumption of
plastic.

An etiquette is placed on the side of the zipper of the bag to display the instructions on
the proper folding when keeping it inside the “katsa–sabutan” pouch. Also, inside the
tote bag is a single pocket with a zipper where coins and/or other small objects can
be stored. There is a waterproof cloth inside the bag to secure the possible moisture
that can damage the materials being stored.

Production Process
Totes will be handmade in Aurora with the aid of our very own tailors. In these trying
times, we will provide them with livelihood.

In order to be environmentally sustainable, we will also use local materials that are
readily available in Aurora. Local items such as “katsa” and "sabutan" will be used to
manufacture the tote bags. “Katsa” will be used for the tote bag while the “sabutan” will
be used to improve the aesthetic of the bag. We want to incorporate sabutan as part of
the pouch that will hold the tote bag, making it not only eco-friendly but also user-
friendly because it is easily portable and can be used anywhere, anytime.

Marketing Strategy
The target market of Totes is anyone ages 16 years old and above. With its uses,
durability, and versatility, Totes can be used by a teenager, a young professional, or a
parent for shopping, for work or school, for the gym, as a daytime purse, as a beach
bag, as a home storage, and as a travel and picnic bag, among others.

Totes will have both physical and online locations. The physical locations will be at the
beach and/or in any pasalubong stores as consignment. A Facebook page will be made
so customers can also buy online.

The following marketing strategies will also be utilized in promoting the business:

1. Online Promotion
Considering many people are using the internet, social media platforms like
Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook are strong search engines optimization that
can help people to find our business. It would help us to promote our business in
an expanded platform. Uploading pictures of our sample product and how to use
it is one of a choice. Contact details and the place where we are located are
uploaded tooto show authentication to our buyers.

2. Flyers/Brochures
Printing and providing copies of what our product is, its quality, and its price is
also one way to promote our product. This can help people to know what our
business is all about, especially for those people who don't have gadgets. We
will also provide contact on flyers/brochures to the customer. Flyers/Brochures

will also help us to identify which place has the highest rate of interest in availing
our products.

3. Ambassadors who promote eco-friendly practices


We will be looking for a brand ambassador who has a big social media presence
to promote and support our eco-friendly product. Through this, we expect that
this will help our product to be more recognizable not only in our municipality but
also the neighboring municipalities. It is also one of our ways to encourage
others not to use plastic bags.
