II. Background

The world is ever changing due to the advancement in the realm of science and

technology. These days it seems hard to escape from technology. Many of us depend

on it to get us through the day, to do our job, to get around, and to find certain things.

Technology is sharply increasing at a very fast rate, and what most people did not even

think could be real recent years, is now becoming a reality.

In this time, we experience an unexpected pandemic which leads the whole world to

depend on technology. Modern gadgets have experienced giant expansion in the past

few years, leading to its deep use by people from all generations. For a generation of

young people, gadgets have assumed a substantial stake in their social and educational

lives. With the increased role of modern gadgets to the student's lives has come the

increased concern about how the student might be affected. Process and content are

changing to the boundary that students today catch up in a world that abounds with

information The increasing amount of time student spend on modern gadgets has

raised questions about the use of the gadgets.

Now, some of the countries are still dealing on how they will provide the education

that the students must have even though they are working hard to gather and give the

knowledge needed by every students. And there it is, the online world come. As for

today’s generation, most of the people especially the students are spending their time in

using gadgets for their everyday life. Gadgets are the tools they are facing in every

second, minutes, hours or every moment of their life. There’s a big impact of using

gadgets for their everyday living. Gadgets can help them for their studies by searching

the internet to gather some information about their subjects and joining online classes.

Gadgets can also help them for online shopping or ordering foods through delivery apps

because we are facing a phenomenon that we are restricted to go outside.

According to Chatterjee et.al (2020) the idea of victimization digital technologies to

show students from homes was introduced to continue with education and overcome

mental stress and anxiety throughout the imprisonment. The COVID-19 pandemic

resulted in an exceedingly digital revolution within the teaching system through on-line

lectures, teleconference, digital open books, on-line examination and interaction in

virtual environments. University colleges are fitting accounts on on-line video-

conferencing platforms from Zoom Video Communications opposition, Skype opposition

and Google LLC among others to have interaction with students. Nearly 60.2 million

college lecturers and university lecturers are not any longer within the room. College

closures impact not solely students, teachers, and families, however have

comprehensive economic and social group consequences yet. The impact was a lot of

severe for underprivileged kids and their families. In India, wherever the general public

still sleep in rural areas, virtually seventy per cent of youngsters attend government

faculties. Nationwide digital learning is much not possible in such faculties and comes

with its chance prices.

According to Othman et. al (2020) many school understudies who own electronic

contraption invested the vast majority of their energy in it. Therefore, both of the part of

scholarly accomplishment and wellbeing status is influenced as they are too reliant on

electronic device. Which we can say that technology has an impact to everything. In this

research, it will provide information about the effect of gadget usage to the student at

home during the pandemic.

III. Objectives and Methods

Objectives

The main purpose of this study is to determine the effects of gadgets usage to the

selected students. Specifically, it aims (1) to determine the effects of spending time on

gadgets to the academic performances of the selected students which serve as the long

term objective of the research.

Research Design

This study will use descriptive quantitative research design. This design will be

considered as the most appropriate to use to be able to gathered numerical data of

these factors, how it affects the academic performances of the students.

The Respondents

The respondents of this study is the selected senior high school students in Lipa City

Senior High School, Academic Year 2020-2021.

The researcher will use a self-made and online questionnaire to gather the desired

information from the respondents. Online survey questionnaire focusing on the positive

and negative effects of gadgets usage on the academic performance of the students.

The independent variable which is the gadget usage is pointing the arrow to its

from one another. On the opposite hand, the dependent variable is pointing the arrow to

the effects of gadget usage. It shows the connection of them that results either positive

or negative effects.

V. Assumptions

 The time spent on gadget has significantly influence the academic

performance. The less time a student spends using gadget, the more time

the student attend to academic matters. And the more time a student

spends on gadget, the less likely the student involve in class.

 The result of this study has a positive effect to the students. Gadget has

been a necessary good to the performance of the student which it makes

communication easier and faster thereby enhancing effective flow of

information and idea sharing among students, it makes more the students

study, build the students grammar and spellings, and leads the student to

do the advance activities and academic preparation.
