Part 1
Theodore wants to participate in the Olympic racetrack using his new
formula 1 car, McLaren. In his training, he is uniformly accelerating at 5 s
and it covers 450 m and another 3 s to cover the next 450 m. Find the
acceleration of Theodore’s car.

Given:
x1 = 450m t1 = 5s a=?
x2 = 450m t2 = 3s
xtotal = 900m ttotal = 8s

Solution:
1
x1 = v1t1 + 2
at12
1
450m = (v1)(5s) + 2
(a)(5s)2
180m/s = 2v1 + (a)(5s)
2v1 = (a)(5s) - 180m/s eq. 1.1

1
xtotal = v1ttotal + 2
attotal2
1
900m = (v1)(8s) + 2
a(8s)2
225m/s = 2v1 + (a)(8s)
2v1 = (a)(8s) - 225m/s eq. 1.2

Since eq.1.1 and eq. 1.2 are equal

(a)(8s) - 225m/s = (a)(5s) - 180m/s

(3s)(a) = 45m/s
45𝑚/𝑠
a=
3𝑠
a = 15.00 m/s2

In his training, the acceleration of Theodore’s car is 15.00 m/s2
