➢ INTRODUCTION
Have you ever felt the messages you convey are not communicated properly or have
you ever felt guilty of not conveying the message as it wants to be conveyed? If so it
is because of your weakness towards communication skills. Apart from the basic
necessities, you need to be equipped with habits for good communication skills, as
this is what will make you a happy and successful social being. In order to develop
these habits, you need to first acknowledge the fact that communication skills need an
improvement from time to time. The only constant in life is change, and the more you
accept your strengths and work towards dealing with shortcomings, especially in the
area of communication skills, the better will be your interactions and the more your
social popularity. Thus the present unit enables you to get a detailed picture of the
need and importance of developing communication skills and feel confident and
empowering to face any type of situation in life .

➢IS ENGLISH IS IMPORTANT OF

COMMUNICATION
• PATRICK MORESCHI SAYS THAT
Language has always been an important source of communication.
May that be any language, a one that is spoken through words, or the sign language that uses
hand or figure gestures. Language plays an important role when you wish to express your
thoughts and feelings to the person you are talking to. But, just speaking in the language you
know is not enough that the person in front understands will help you express yourself better.
In today’s world, when people have spread far and wide and there are different languages
spoken in different regions, it is important that one should know the native language of the
region he is planning to settle in.

• HAMMOND PHYLLIS SAYS THAT

Language is an important aspect in our day to day life because it

enables us to communicate. In writing and editing standards there are certain aspects that
should be put into consideration in order to effectively and clearly communicate the intended
message. It is acceptable, for instance, to use abbreviations such as etc. and i.e. in a text. Others
abbreviations include min, for minimum or minutes and max. for maximum. When an
abbreviation is used, the full form must be given when the abbreviation appears for the first
time, unless it is listed in the definitions and abbreviations clause. In a long, involved
document with many abbreviations, the full form may be given more often, as necessary.
Alphabetical listing: When listing items alphabetically, take into account the letters of a word
or words in the sequence in which they appear. Disregard hyphens, spaces between words and
punctuation's marks. Grammar and phraseology: In text, parenthesis is used, two (or more)
sets if necessary. Make sure that each set is closed and are used in equations or definitions. If
necessary, for the sake of clarity, repeat prepositions such as to, for, from, etc., if one of them
governs more than one phrase-powder collected from the workshop floor or from the floor in
the work area…” Do not start a sentence with a number. Instead of “20 samples are required,
to write: ‘Twenty specimens’…

Try to avoid the use of the present participle in sentences,

rather use a relative pronoun: Do not change weight to determine the mass of or vice versa
without querying. The result, however, must always be mass and never weight. The
instruction when a test is being described should read: ‘Calculate in milligrams, the loss of
mass’ and not, ‘Calculate the loss of mass in milligrams….’Where the symbols of equations
are being explained, the sequence is the other way around where F is the friction, in Newton’s.
However, when a sentence is very long and the metric unit could become “lost”, the unit may
be moved to the front…where F is the average value, in Newton’s, of the friction under… We
do not use “unless inconsistent with the text….” Rather use “unless specified otherwise…”
We use ‘exceeds’ rather than ‘greater than’, BUT the use of greater than in mathematical
expressions, and ‘larger than’ for physical size is quite acceptable. Editors should not change
without querying.

➢ IMPORTANT OF COMMUNICATION

is the biggest source of journalism. These are the words which make the points in our
discussion. Language help audience to understand the arguments and opinion
Here we will discuss the communicative significance of language with the following

➢ CONCLUSION

Traditionally, linguists and philosophers have seen the primary purpose of language as
being representation and communication.
Language is what enables people to articulate things, ideas and
attitudes in an intelligible form and to transmit the results to other people. More recently,
linguists have recognized the importance of language in identities. Language enables us to
express who we think we are and how we are connected with other people. The three functions
of representation, communication and identity are intimately interwoven, and in each cases
language is the main means by which human beings carry out the crucial tasks of developing
their understanding of the world, communicating with each other and negotiating their own place
within it (Joseph 2004). When these tasks are undertaken between members of different
language communities, the balance between communication, representation and identity
becomes both more complex and more critical to the outcomes of interaction.
