Week: 4 Units: 6 and 7
Course: Intensive English 5
Topic: Being socially conscious
Communicative function: Talking about corporate social responsibility
Interaction: Individual
Target language:
a. words related to the topic of learning a language
b. words and phrases on the topic of socially conscious businesses
c. future progressive and future perfect tenses
d. passive voice
e. language banks from Week 4’s online sessions
Length of video: Your video should last from 2’ 30” to 3´ 30”.
Technical requirements:
 any video recording tool
 any video editing tool, if necessary
Note: If you use www.Youtube.com to make the video, change video privacy setting to “unlisted” so your
teacher can view it, but not strangers on the internet.
Assessment criteria:
 pronunciation and intonation
 discourse management
 accuracy
 task achievement (organization, clarity and use of webcam)

Timeline and deadline:
This task should be prepared during week 4.
You must upload your video or paste the link to your video on Blackboard (Unit 7 file) by Sunday,
November 7th 2021 at 23:59 p.m.

ORAL PRODUCTION TASK INSTRUCTIONS

Visit https://www.upc.edu.pe/en/nosotros/pilares-estrategicos/sostenibilidad/ and read about one of UPC’s


social responsibility initiatives.

Then, record yourself on video telling us:

 how is UPC committed to society and the environment


 which the three main areas of action are
 about two of the initiatives/programs/projects (who and how UPC help, why society needs help
in those fields, how many people are benefited, etc.)
 if you have participated (or would like to participate) in any of the CSR projects UPC has set up.
Explain why.

Do not use scripts in your conversation.

PROCEDURE

Before recording
 Review units 6 and 7. Use resources from English Discoveries and Blackboard.
 Watch Week 4’s class recordings on Blackboard.
 Plan how you are going to start, develop and end your conversation. Avoid scripting your conversation.
Improvisation is welcome.
 Make sure you will use the vocabulary and grammar structures you have learned in Units 6 and 7. See
Target language above.
 You may want to practice some times before recording the final version of your video.
 Check the rubrics with specific criteria for grading oral production activities.

While recording

 Be in a well-lit area.
 Speak as clearly as possible.
 Look at the camera while you speak.
 Smile.
 Be confident.
 Don’t just read.
 Show objects, pictures or other people doing things, if necessary.

After recording

 Test your video works well before uploading it. If you use an external service like YouTube, also
test the link before posting it. 
 Make sure your video respects the time limit.
 Paste the link of your video or upload the video file and the script (the script is referential) in the
Assignment section (“actividad”) in Unit 7 on Blackboard.
