Netflix prices are decreasing in India and increasing in the USA. Why?

Netflix has reduced the cost of its base plan in India by 60%, from 499 rupees ($6.60) to 199
rupees per month, while also lowering the cost of its higher-quality plans by equal amounts.

The most notable pricing change is at Netflix India's lowest tier, its mobile plan, which is now
priced at 149 rupees, down from 199 rupees, and is targeted at mobile phone and tablet
customers.

Netflix's focus on Indian mobile viewers and Indian consumers spends nearly five hours per
day on their Android mobile devices and downloaded 4.8 billion games in the first half of 2021,
outnumbering all Android mobile gamers worldwide.

Netflix is outperforming its domestic competition when compared to its critical overseas
competitors. According to a report from Media Partners Asia, Disney+ Hotstar, a joint venture
between Disney and its Star India subsidiary, will have 46 million subscribers by the end of
the year. In contrast, Amazon Prime Video, which had 18 million subscribers this summer,
could have nearly 22 million by the end of the year.

But in the United States, if Netflix can't increase revenues and continue to gain customers, it
will have to do so by raising pricing. The price hike was "simply part of their need to continue
to raise revenues, to be able to compete successfully, to be able to create exciting material, and
then to promote effectively as competition has increased."
