What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Let’s quickly go over what affiliate marketing is, in case you’re not
100% sure.

Affiliate marketing refers to selling someone else’s product(s), then

getting a commission for each sale made through you:
Much like a door to door salesman.

He sells a product he doesn’t own.

When he makes a sale, the company who owns the product will give
him a commission.

That’s all affiliate marketing is.

Sell someone else’s product. Make money when you sell it.
What Is An Affiliate Blog Post?

An affiliate blog post is a post centred around the promotion of an

affiliate product.

While the post focuses on providing valuable content, the main goal is
to produce sales.
Usually, the promotion is based on a single product.
But in some cases, it’s a promotion of multiple products.
How To Write An Affiliate Blog Post

There are many ways to write an affiliate blog post and promote
affiliate products.

Here are 3 popular ways that work incredibly well…

WAIT! Don’t even have a blog yet? I’ve got you. Check out this
post which shows you how to start your own blog.
#1: Product Reviews

Product reviews are a quick and easy way to get an affiliate post
written in no time.

What makes this approach so effective is, consumers want to know as

much as possible about a product before they make a buying decision.
Because this type of post is so simple to do, it’s one of the most
popular promotion methods amongst affiliates.

A great example of product reviews can be seen from Best Reviews:

They review all kinds of products, with all products being affiliate
products from Amazon:
You can review just 1 product.

Or:

You can review products against each other, much like Best Reviews
does.

If product reviews is the path for you, make sure your review is

thorough.
List both the pro’s AND con’s, and everything about the product(s) as
you can.
You could even add in an FAQ, and answer common questions
consumers may have:
By providing so much information about a product, this helps people
make a buying decision.

Even more:

It makes them more likely to buy from you, the source of such great
information.

Just be open, honest, and thorough in your review, and your review
should turn out great.

#2: How To Posts

This is my favorite way to promote affiliate products, and it works
really well.

It’s where you teach people “how to do”, or “achieve“ something.

This is powerful, because a lot of people are looking for how to style
content.

These types of posts work great for providing content, and for
promoting affiliate products.

Here’s an example of a how to style affiliate post:

This is one of my posts.
In the post I talk about how to get started with email marketing as an
affiliate, while promoting OptinMonster (affiliate product) at the same
time.
To make this approach effective, the product being promoted needs to
“tie in” with the content.

For example:

In the post, OptinMonster is being promoted.

That product ties in with the content, because OptinMonster is used to

create lead capture forms.
And lead capture forms are required to start email marketing.

You never want to promote a product that doesn’t tie in with your

content, because that will cause a product to content “mismatch.”
If you write a how to style affiliate post, write long in-depth content.

The more in-depth the content is, the better the post will perform.

#3: Product Tutorials

Sometimes, all it takes to get a sale is to teach people how to use a

product.

Ideally, the products you promote you’ll use yourself, and know a lot
about.

Giving a tutorial is a great way to showcase how awesome your

affiliate product is, and how it will help your audience.

An example of product tutorials can be seen from Pat Flynn:

In his guide, he’s teaching how to use ConvertKit, which is an
autoresponder.
Product tutorials are an awesome way to promote affiliate products.

But like anything, you need to be thorough in your teachings.

To make this type of post effective, you’ll want to provide screen

shots or videos of the product.

And show people (step by step) how to use the product.

The more detailed you can be, and the more screen shots or videos
you can provide, the more in-depth the post becomes.

Which increases your chances of getting the sale.

And with that, here are…

8 Writing “Hacks” To Ensure Your Post Is (Actually)

Read
No matter how you promote affiliate products, it won’t do any good if
people don’t read your post.

Here are 8 writing techniques you can use to draw people into reading
your content…

#1: Write A Killer Headline

Most people slap a headline together as quick as possible,

then immediately move on to writing their post.
This is a huge mistake.
You should spend just as much time (if not more) on your headline as
you do your post.

Without a good headline, your post won’t be opened, and your

content won’t be read.

The good thing is, there are “formulas” you can use to make coming
up with great headlines easy.

For example:

The “how to” formula. Where you start your headline with the
words “How to” followed by a benefit to the reader.
This works really well when you simply say what you have to say.

Such as:

“How to Build a 15ft Tool Shed for Under $50.”

Or:

“How to Cut 5lbs of Body Fat in 7 Days or Less.”

The “list post” formula. Where you start your headline with a
number, followed by a topic and a benefit.
For example:

“11 Battle Tested Strategies to Boost Your Sales Conversions.”

Or:

“9 Money Saving Tips that Could Make you Rich.”

#2: Write A Short, Punchy Introduction

Ideally, your post will have some kind of an introduction.

Where you introduce to the reader what your post is about, and what
they can expect to learn from your post.

The goal of the introduction is to get people excited about your

content.
To achieve this, you can ask a “yes” question where the answer to the
question will be a yes.

This helps to immediately get the reader engaged.

You should also keep your introduction short and sweet, at no more
than 5-6 paragraphs long.

Here’s an example of an introduction from my post “How to Do

Affiliate Email Marketing”:
The introduction is used to confirm what the reader will learn when
they read the post.

But it’s also short, sweet, and straight to the point.

This helps to keep the reader engaged, and eager to continue reading.

#3: Write Short Paragraphs

Nobody wants to read an essay.

So it’s best to use short paragraphs in your posts.

Just like content marketing expert Neil Patel does in all of his posts:

The shorter the paragraph, the easier and more appealing the content
is to read.

Paragraphs between 2-3 sentences long seem to work the best.

Here’s an example of how to not write your paragraphs:

If it looks like an essay, nobody will read it.

#4: Use Parentheses & Bucket Brigades

To make your content even easier and more appealing to read, use
parentheses and bucket brigades throughout your posts.
A “parentheses” is a word or phrase that’s inserted between brackets
(like this) during a sentence.

And a “bucket brigade” is a word or a couple of words that end with a

colon.

In my post “How to Become an Affiliate Marketer”, a bucket brigade

(and a parentheses) is used in the introduction:

These are old school copywriting techniques I learned from legendary

copywriter Gary Halbert.
They’re used to break up content, and make it easier to read.

#5: Use Subheadings

Sub headings help the reader determine the overall outline of your
post.

And to navigate to specific sections of a post.

Think of sub headings as a title to the different sections or “sub

sections.”
Here’s an example from my post “9 Killer Affiliate Tips” that uses
sub headings:

In fact:

You won’t find a single post on this website that doesn’t use sub
headings.
Not only do they help a reader determine the overall outline of a post.

But:
Sub headings make it easier to read and grasp the content.

#6: Use A Good Size Font

Write your posts using 16-18pt font.

Why?

Those sizes are big enough that it makes reading the content easy.

But they’re not so big that it makes your writing look, well, desperate.

Never write your post with a smaller font.

Because any smaller, and the content becomes harder to read, so
it won’t be read.
#7: Use Big Margins

A margin is the gap between paragraphs, often referred to as “white

space.”

You want a lot of white space between each paragraph.

For example, like this:

There are big gaps between each paragraph.

By using big margins, this helps break up the content so it doesn’t

look like an essay.

Adjusting the margins of your content can be done within your

website’s customization area.

#8: Add Images And/Or Videos

By using images or videos in your content, this creates a multimedia

experience.
Which in today’s world, people want.
Use images or videos wherever necessary, and you’ll create a better
experience for those reading your content.
