The Architect’s responsibilities in relation to the people:

- to provide health and safety of the users and preservation of historic amenities
- shall share information to another architects
- shall abide the laws concerning the profession
- present the public with factual materials
- Shall not solicit or take part on paid advertisements
- Shall not mislead the people with false professional specialization

The Architect’s responsibilities in relation to the client:

- introducing the professional services that can be provided including the nature, scope
and charges
- doesn’t offer free service unless there is an agreement with the client
- advising against the project if there is a questionable reason or conditions
- explaining the conditional character of the estimates
- providing the needs of the client while ensuring the well-being of the general public
- charging the professional fee based on the “Standards of Professional Practice” of the
“Architect’s National Code”
- may undertake a project (under a fixed contract sum agreement) provided with the
consideration of the conditions under “Construction Services”, “Comprehensive
Services” or “Design-Build Services”
- fees should be charged directly to the client without any other returns
- and lastly, the architect is free with business or investment relations outside the
profession.

The Architect’s responsibilities in relation to the contractor:

- giving every reasonable aid with clear, definite and constant information
- not calling upon the contractor to correct or remedy errors in the Contract Documents
- inspecting or rejecting materials, equipment or workmanship then doesn’t consider the
Contract Document
- not accepting free gifts, services, aids, or favors from any contractor
- inspecting each phase of work upon request by the contractor
- issuing the corresponding Certificates of Payment and the Final Certificate of
Completion to the Contractor.

The Architect’s responsibilities in relation to the manufacturers, dealers, and agents:

- The architect shall not avail the services offered by manufacturers or suppliers and shall
not receive commissions, discounts, fees, gifts, or favors from agents or firms
- Market discounts shall be accepted provided that it is accredited to the client.

The Architect’s responsibilities in relation to colleagues and subordinates:

- The architect shall not render professional services without compensation except for
small civic or charity projects
- shall not provide or offer preliminary services prior to the agreement
- shall not compete with other architects or submit un/solicited drawings in competition
with other architects unless arranged by the UAP Architectural Competition Code
- shall not seek commissions that are already endowed to another architect
- shall not enter as a competitor on a competition if he/she has direct relations on the
program or a professional adviser or juror
- shall not be a professional adviser or juror if assisted on the preparations on a
competition
- shall not accept any commissions on erected structures without notifying the previous
architect
- shall not knowingly injure the reputation and prospects of another architect; shall not
affix a signature or seal to any plans not done under his/her direct supervision;
- shall inspire and share information to employees and young aspirants;
- and shall give his/her time and effort to the profession and organization.
