SCHOOL-FAMILY-COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
ON GULAYAN SA TAHANAN
The unprecedented challenge to public health, employment, and food systems
brought about by COVID-19 lead to initiation of Gulayan sa Tahanan program.
Undernourished people increased in number and unemployment became rampant in the
whole country.
Gulayan sa Tahanan provides a greener and more sustainable environment. It
also nurutres ecological balance in nature which is very beneficial for the living
organisms. In addition, it promotes ecological management of solid wastes for use in
planting and composting as source of plant nutrients.

This activity encourages vegetable production at home, establish and maintain


gardens as ready food source of vegetables in sustaining the daily needs, inculcate the
value of gardening, good health, and love of labor and caring for others among the
learners, parents and the community.

The Gulayan sa Tahanan enables to use vacant lots, empty pots and recyclable
materials. In this time that people should stay at home, it is a good form of exercise,
enjoyment, use of leisure time and a productive hobby.

In the implementation of Gulayan sa Tahanan, it is safe to recommend or


suggest sustaining the use of organic fertilizers in raising vegetables and involve the
members of the family in planting greens, herbs and legumes.

A family having vegetable garden at home may experience reduction of poverty


because instead of buying in the market, they have foods ready at their backyard which
is very fresh and guaranteed healthful for the body. This would be very beneficial
because in scientific finding, people who have long life and reach the age of ninety and
