2. Differentiate EMR from EHR.

An electronic medical record is a computerized representation of the health information


of an individual patient generated from a clinic or information system of healthcare institution
that took care of the patient while Electronic health record is when the patient is managed or
admitted, several times in one or several institution w/ automated information system during
his life time, he may have collected many EMRs.

4. Enumerate different HIS technologies and briefly describe each.

* The Electronic Chart System-is a computer system in various formats used by physician,
nurses, ward clerk and other health care provider to record, to retrieve and view patient data to make
orders and to communicate with other departments or section in hospital.

* Electronic Monitoring System- they are used LCD based/CRT based system that monitor and
display v/s, cardiac, respiratory and other physiologic activity processed from data coming from input
sensor device hooked to patient body.

*Automated Medication Administration System- a nurse uses a personal digital assistant or


PDA to identify the patient at point of care.

*Automated Medication Dispensing System- Its look like a drawer composed of 10-20 trays,
when the PDA used in patient medication administration, the nurse first confirm for 5R on the
automated medication dispensing system. The AMDS do not open if there are problem in the 5R.

*Automatic Labeling Machine-The PDA can communicate via Bluetooth to a portable labeling
machine to quickly produced labels for specimen or sample bottles and other items related to the
patient.

*Automated Billing Machine- They work like an ATM, the user enters the ID no. of his patient
to obtain a display and full page print out of his latest billing status.

*Home Health Care System- It look like a desktop or a laptop PC connected to a set of
monitoring devices that the patient hooks to his body so he could be monitored by a healthcare
provider at distance.

*Healthcare Information System- Is the integration of all information system of the various
clinical and non clinical department of healthcare institution.
