Introductory Message!

Welcome to STVEP 9 - Entrepreneurship!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Schools Division of Iloilo and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas through the

II. Background Information for Learners

This learning activity sheet will acquaint you on how to prepare lay-out of
production/service area.

Production or Service area layout refers to how the work stations and equipment are
arranged according to the process of production or system of delivering service.
There are four types of production layout e.g. Process layout, Product layout, Hybrid
layout and Fixed layout.

Process layout- group similar resources or the same processes together.

Usually used to design floor plan of a plant by arranging equipment according to
function.

Product layout- a typical line assembly approach. Design to produce a

specific product efficiently. Examples: car or vehicle manufacturing process where
the car body or parts goes to one stage of production to the next stage.

Hybrid layout-combination of product and process layouts. It groups

technology and manufacturing. Also called cellar lay-out for example there are 6
workstations, 6 products can be manufactured at the same time.

Fixed layout-the project is stationary where workers and equipment are in

the same place or area. The equipment can be too heavy or large to move or
transfer.
Examples are the construction of ship, bridge, highway, a house.

The production or service area layout to plan or prepare will depend on your
kind of product to produce or service to render. You can use any of the four types of
layout or even the combination of two or three types. The most important things to

consider are the safety, convenience of workers and efficiency of both the workers
and equipment. Layout can be simple to complex depending on your business.
